YouTube is replacing its message inbox feature with a new communication system, Google has announced.
Creators’ inboxes will initially become read-only and be deleted entirely in “the next few months”.
Channel owners will be able to download their messages before they are automatically deleted.
The replacement messaging feature will roll out this week.
Youtube.com/messages will allow threaded conversations and improved spam filtering.
The Next Web reports that the new messaging system “is not synced to Google+”.
New features will also be added to the YouTube comments system, allowing creators to find comments specifically from subscribers.
Hashtag support will also be added when the changes go live.
