Have your Pride flags at the ready as we run down some of the best videos for this year’s Pride month.
For many, June means Pride month, and to celebrate some of our favourite LGBTQ+ creators have been educating viewers on LGBTQ+ history and giving us numerous reasons to celebrate the momentous month! Whilst we may not be able to go to the parades, protests and parties we many normally would, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we can still commemorate Pride within our homes.
As we have in years past, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite Pride and LGBTQ+ focused content. From a coming out video to Pride arts and crafts, these videos are truly some of the best. Here they are, our Five of the Best: Pride Months 2020!
Does Pride Exclude Disabled People? | Jessica Kellgren-Fozard
We begin with the always wonderful Jessica Kellgren-Fozard.
Jessica is dedicating all of her content this month to Pride – and we could not be happier. In this video, she takes us through a very important intersectional conversation about Pride and ablism. She discusses how Pride events are often inaccessible for disabled people, saying, “It’s not just being excluded from something you want to do. You’re being excluded from your own identity.”
Thank you, Jessica, for bringing this conversation to our Pride celebrations this year.
DIY Drag Race | notcorry
NotCorry, Noah Finn Adams and Jake Edwards compete in a RuPaul’s Drag Race-inspired DIY challenge in this video, and the results are pretty amaizng.
They make their drag costumes from bin bags, cardboard and balloons, and who doesn’t love a friendly competition with a little shade thrown at RuPaul for good measure? Vegard Saeterhaug makes an excellent Michelle Visage, and the lip sync song provided by Luke Cutforth is iconic.
Excuse us while we break out the scissors and sticky tape to make our own runway-worthy outfits.
Coming Out. I Am Female. | Trevi Moran
Coming out videos have always been powerful for both those making them and the audience viewing them. This month, Trevi Moran has come out to her audience as transgender. She shares the struggles she has faced coming to this moment, and how she has been on hormones for two months. We are also treated to a preview of a docu-series she is making about her transition and growing up on YouTube.
Trevi gives us some wise words of advice, saying if you are going through hards times, “don’t go out, go in”. There is nothing better than seeing someone grow into themselves and become happy with who they are.
i painted with pride flag colors | Hannah Snow
Pride flags. Painting. Hannah Snow. What more could you want?
To celebrate Pride, Hannah chooses three flags to each provide the colour palette for a painting. The result is three gorgeous paintings using the colours of the aromantic, trangender and pansexual flags. It looks like you could just jump right into the magical scenes.
Hopefully, in the future, we’ll get a full array of Pride-inspired paintings.
Reacting To Wholesome LGBT+ Memes | Jammidodger
We round out our 2020 Pride rundown with Jamie Raines reacting to some wholesome LGBTQ+ memes.
We could always benefit from a heartwarming video and that is exactly what Jamie gives us. He takes us through some top quality LGBTQ+ memes, from The Simpsons to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and gives us a good laugh along the way.
Thank you, Jamie, for making our days a little brighter.
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Pride Month 2020 videos! We hope these give you all those Pride feels from a safe 2 metre distance. This year, we have learned that we don’t need the parties and parades to celebrate and commemorate Pride (even if they’re fun) – Pride starts with us.
