We can all rely on Christina for our metalcore fix.
Christina Rotondo has been on our music radars since 2010, uploading metal and rock covers to YouTube, and she is still wowing us all with her talent! But that was only the the beginning for this rockstar, who has gone on to release EPs, tour and take on voiceover opportunities.
Whether you’re a first-time listener or have always been a fan of metal and EDM, we can guarantee that you’ll be screaming “Encore!” at the top of your lungs while watching the following list of videos. Get ready to rock with our favourite covers from Christina!
Her Paramore medley
“They say that dreaming is free”, but when Christina uploaded this video in 2017, the response was a dream come true.
Christina is a huge Paramore fan, and in 2017 she uploaded a medley with 22 tracks (yep, 22 songs) from the band, and we were in awe over the melodies and the transitions from song-to-song. Three years later, she is still receiving great support and attention from this video alone.
Amnesia – 5 Seconds of Summer
We’re throwing it back to 2014 when Christina collaborated with Joel Scott for their version of Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer. (Formally known as 5SOS.) The harmonies and instrumental backing are perfectly balanced, and we want to give the cover the recognition it deserves!
We could have this video on repeat all day, every day.
What if Ariana Grande was metal? Good question
Ariana Grande covers with a heavy-rock twist? We’re greedy for more.
Yes, you read the title correctly! And we ask ourselves, what would metal Ariana Grande tunes sound like? Well, Christina answered just that when she covered Thank u, next with Johnny Ciardullo. The bass emphasis and drive made this an energetic, zestful and an all-good tune to rock to! Thank u, Christina, and we can’t wait for the next pop-metal crossover!
Leave (Get Out) – JoJo
Picture this: your favourite song from the early 2000s given a modern twist, and it’s everything you could’ve wanted. (And more.)
Christina is no stranger to giving her covers an edgy alternative take and this has to be one of our favourites yet! We were not prepared for the execution or emotion that was projected in this video. All we want to do is blast it on our speakers and have an evening of nostalgia. Anyone care to join?
Death of a Bachelor – Panic! At The Disco
Those riffs! Applause all around!
This just proves that Christina can sing absolutely anything, and, yes, we’re all envious of her. When Christina covered Death of a Bachelor from Panic! At The Disco, we all wanted to wrap ourselves in a blanket and burst into tears with the powerful and emotive take on experiencing closure.
Throne – Bring Me The Horizon
Do we need to explain ourselves? Take a look.
This song was circulating widely on the internet when it was released, so when Christina uploaded this cover, we immediately had to see it. With vocal overlays and instrumental framework, she was the reason we were fighting back to hold our tears.
Don’t Start Now – Dua Lipa
She hasn’t let lockdown prevent her from getting creative.
We had to wrap up this list with one of Christina’s most memorable projects yet. It’s been hard trying to escape this song (particularly on TikTok), but we let this version slide and love her metal and authentic version of it! This was a great collaboration, and has lifted our spirits during quarantine, for sure.
We just want to do a full 180° and listen to it again, like it’s the first time.
So there we have it…
We have loved taking this trip down memory lane with Christina’s covers! It’s incredible to think that 10 years ago she uploaded her first video and what has come since. We can’t get enough of these covers and we are very excited to see what’s next for the rock princess!
Now, we just need to buy an electric guitar and get practising.
