Five of the Best: TomSka Videos

14 years is a long time!

Do you remember when you were 14 years old? You had just become a teenager, with all your pent up angst and need to show your parents (and the world) just how grown-up and mature you were… Even though you actually weren’t. School, music and that week’s crush were all that were on your mind – and don’t get us started on those food cravings! We don’t know about you, but we were always hungry! We’re so sorry, mum and dad, for all the money you had to spend in order to feed our growing bodies.

You might be wondering why we’re talking about this. Well, in case you were unaware, Thomas Ridgewell‘s YouTube channel turned 14 years old this weekend, meaning we’ve had the pleasure of being witness to his comedy sketches for over half our lives! The violence, the laughs, the off-the-cuff hilarity and the… Questionable scripts – we honestly don’t know what we’d do without Tom’s channel!

Here they are, our Five of the Best: TomSka videos!

HORSE | TomSka

We had to start off the list with a classic, a video that has transcended the walls of YouTube to become an internet phenomenon! Yep, that’s right, we’re kicking things off with the iconic HORSE. We never knew we’d wanted to see Tom wearing a dress and horse mask until this video, but there’s something oddly satisfying about it. We can’t seem to take our eyes off him!

Now, you might be wondering, what kind of horse-themed comedy sketch could Tom come up with? Well, how about one about a murderous horse-human hybrid that lures people in with their kindness before killing them whilst in a bathroom stall. (RIP, Daniel J. Layton.) We can’t blame Daniel for having wanted to get to know Tom more. We mean, did you see those amazing dance moves? We too would have been swept off our feet!

Picture Perfect (feat. Crabstickz) | TomSka

We know it’s going to be a good time whenever Chris Kendall and Tom come together for a sketch. Our all-time favourite from the duo? Picture Perfect!

Any artist understands creative block. You want to paint something, but you aren’t exactly sure what, and you just can’t find the inspiration to get started. Thankfully, Tom came to Chris’ rescue and taught him how to paint the picture of his dreams – or so we thought he would. Despite Tom’s specific instructions for Chris to paint a portrait of him, what we get are a sneaker, the alphabet and a pair of breasts. We’re a bit concerned as to how Chris actually sees Tom.

Also, it’s always the time for feminism, Tom!

Bible Time (feat. Hbomberguy) | TomSka

Have you ever wondered how the Bible came to be? You might think you know its origin story, but it’s a lot different than what we’ve been led to believe. There’s a lot more drunken storytelling and the murdering of vikings than one may have thought.

In this sketch, Harry Brewis plays the humble historian who is influenced to change the Bible after a drunken future Tom travels back in time to spice things up. Instead of having Joseph be Jesus’ father, we’re going to make it an immaculate conception. Remove all the characters, so that Noah is the only one left with all the animals. Make the water into wine because, y’know, alcohol makes everything better.

Everything is always much better once it’s edited.

First Contact (feat. Daniell Howell) | TomSka

It’s hard to meet someone at a party when everyone hates you. Thankfully, Tom has wingman Daniel Howell to help him meet the girl of his dreams: NeonFiona.

What did we learn from watching this video? Pickup lines aren’t necessarily the best way to get someone you’re interested in to talk to you. Also, Daniel might not necessarily be the best person to ask for advice, considering his monthly socialising quota. He just won’t be there for you when you need him most. Most importantly? Make sure you ask that special someone out before they get vaporised by an alien. It can happen when you least expect it.

asdfmovie | TomSka

You know we couldn’t write up an article about our favourite TomSka videos without mentioning the internet phenomenon that is asdfmovie. It has become an annual tradition that we find ourselves looking forward to year after year. Pretty much everyone under the sun is aware of the series, its characters and its randomness!

From Mine Turtle and Muffin Time, to Everybody Do The Flop, there are so many memorable moments that we couldn’t possibly list them all. Then there are the guest appearances: Chloe Dungate, Jack Douglass, Phil Lester, Jack Howard, dodie – we could go on and on, but then we’d be here all day. So we’ll leave you with this: asdfmovie is one of the defining moments of internet culture and we’ll argue with anyone who says differently.

So there you have it…

Our Five of the Best: TomSka videos! Our list certainly doesn’t do justice to Tom’s years on YouTube, but we hope we were able to do him proud. We can’t wait to see what the next 14 years will bring. Hopefully it involves more comedy and experimentation, because his channel is definitely one of our faves!
