“Would that be enough?”
We don’t know about you, but we go through moments of feeling not good enough. It can be all-consuming and prevent us from being the best version of ourselves. Thankfully, we (and you) have Raya Encheva to help bring things back into perspective.
The video is a powerful insight into the conversations Raya has with herself when the voice inside her head tells her she is not good enough – the voice, which makes her question if going to bed happy and content, working for yourself and being successful are good enough.
As she says, “What if I am living the life I always dreamed of, where I can travel whenever and wherever I want, living with friends who become family? Would that be enough? No.” If the sincere look on Raya’s face as she recounts these words is not clear, the sheer emotion behind every statement is incredibly powerful. You feel every word she is saying, and when you see tears appear in her eyes, you are right there with her.
Following the statements, she transitions into the second part of the video, where she says, “What if I don’t hold such high impossible standards for myself and I learn to appreciate every moment of joy without the guilt of not working, and where I could celebrate my days and little wins without the shame they are not grand enough? What if I went to bed happy and content every night? Wouldn’t that be enough?” At this point, we want to shout to her, “Yes! Yes, that is the way it should be.” In hindsight, we realised, this is the response we would be screaming at our best friend if we were having this exact same conversation with them.
If we were having it with ourselves? Well, that would be very different, even though it shouldn’t be.
A poignant moment for us is when Raya opens up about the fact she can’t imagine being at a point in her life where she will think what she has done is good enough, and that makes her sad. She sat down and thought about what she has achieved thus far, admitting she hasn’t always fully appreciated them because of the constant worry she is not doing enough. This is something many of us in today’s fast-paced world can relate to.
Raya’s beautiful words are a stark reminder we all need to be a little bit kinder to ourselves. As she says, “At the end of the day, if we can just go to bed happy every night, that should be enough.” We couldn’t agree more.
The message viewers take away from this raw, genuine video is whatever we are doing right now, it is important to stop and appreciate everything we have done thus far. We need to not take the small things for granted and remember that we are good enough.
