“Quite a bittersweet end.”
In her latest video, art student and lifestyle vlogger Annabelle Gao gives us an insight into finishing art school whilst being at home with family.
In this clam and relaxed vlog, Annabelle takes us through the weeks up to her final days at the Rhode Island School of Design. As the school is closed, she shows us her setup in her family home, surrounded by her parents, grandma, cats and her boyfriend, Tyler. The video starts with a relaxed look at Annabelle’s home life, featuring some incredible dancing, before diving into her homework schedule.
She kicks this off by showing one of her final designs and talks about how she plans to display it. Although, we later find out that it does not go to plan. “I’m trying out for the first time ordering my designs to be digitally printed,” Annabelle starts. “So that for my final presentation, I can have some physical objects to document and talk about, so it’s not just the Photoshop file.”
Later in the video, Annabelle talks about how the shipping has been delayed, so her plans are forced to change. “Quite a bittersweet end,” she says.
One of the assignments she discusses throughout the video is for her inking class. After an Instagram user suggested drawing a cake house, Annabelle shows us the process of how she went about it. “Doing mastercopies before, it got a little bit repetitive and boring to me,” she explains. “This one is more graphic, and I put more of my imagination into it.”
Reflectively, Annabelle talks about how this was not the class she originally intended on taking. “I’m really glad that I ended up taking this class. I was meant to be taking ceramics, but I didn’t get in,” she informs viewers. “My mom was saying that, in retrospect, even if I got into the class, school would’ve closed and I probably would have cried about that anyway.”
After showing us some more of her home life with her family (we loved the amount of cat content here), Annabelle wraps up the video by submitting her final assignments. “This is it,” she exclaims. “I’m submitting my work. All that’s left now is a one-to-one Zoom call. I’ll be back soon, done with school, and I guess there will be an update of what’s to come next.”
Personally, we can’t wait to see what Annabelle does next!
