The social media convention has been postponed until August 2021.
Social in the City (SitC), formerly known as Summer in the City, was due to take place from 31 July to 2 August, with over 40 guests announced as attending the event.
In a statement released on social media, SitC said: “In light of COVID-19, we have decided that postponing our headline Summer Event in Summer 2021 is the right decision for everyone. We appreciate all of your patience over the past weeks, while we have worked towards a concrete update. Your health and safety are important to us, which is why we’ve been working hard this past month to agree on a move for the event with London ExCeL from its contracted 2020 dates.”
Dates for the 2021 Summer event are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
It comes after the London ExCel Centre, which hosts the event, was contracted to become NHS Nightingale – a temporary hospital for Coronavirus patients.
Existing ticket holders have the option to move their ticket to the 2021 event and keep their 2020 prices, or transfer their ticket to the 2020 Winter Social in the city event, taking place on 7-8 November at the NEC in Birmingham.
“As a community event, it will be a huge help if you are in a position to transfer your ticket to 2021, or Winter, especially at a tough time for the events industry,” Social in the City said in their announcement on social media. “We do, however, appreciate that these are trying times for everyone and not just the event industry, so will respect any decision you make.”

“Once again, we would like to thank you for all your patience during this time. We wanted to ensure we were able to deliver a full and accurate update, which unfortunately required some time due to venue hire contracts.”
Information on how to obtain a refund will be sent to ticket holders once the 2021 dates have been announced.
