“21-year-old Teeyana, I thank you for being brave and taking that leap and coming on to this channel.“
If you had the opportunity to relive memories of your younger self, would you do it? Teeyana Aromi answered just that, as she took us back to five years ago by reacting to her first ever YouTube video. (Seriously, where has the time gone?)
“I’m am flippin’ cringing, right now,” Teeyana expresses as she introduces her video before continuing to clarify that this is the first time she’s watched the footage since it was uploaded. We are then driven straight to the reaction, as Teeyana excitedly says, “Let’s get started!” Let’s buckle ourselves in and travel back to 2015!
“Hi guys! Welcome to [my channel]… I can’t believe I’m doing this!” A younger Teeyana appears, as she introduces herself to her new audience, leading Teeyana to take the time to reflect on her intentions for creating the channel. “As soon as I thought [I really wanted to start a YouTube channel], I did it,” she says, continuing to explain that, despite her initial nerves, she knew she wanted to go for it, and the platform helped individuals get to know her lifestyle.
Teeyana loves interacting with her viewers and this was evident from the beginning. “I’m just gonna tell you guys a little bit about myself and why I am doing this,” her past self shared, with the additional commentary of “I’m doing so much with my hands” and “What am I doing?” from her present-day self.
“21! I’m 26 right now,” she highlights, as she realises the video was created five years ago, then continues to reflect. “I am really proud for just putting myself out there.” The video then continues discussing her mannerisms, flipping her hair and talking in an American accent. (Just to be clear, she still does this.)
“Did I really do that?” Teeyana responds as she watches her previous self overlay her footage with words that she described herself with. She shared her appeal to be authentic and different, and to help inspire and motivate others to pursue there dream. We can tall you first-hand that she’s done just that!
In heaps of laughter, the video finishes with some outtakes. “I’m a mess!” She shouts, as her younger self draws the video to a close singing, going through notes and dancing her way to the outro.
As the video comes to an end, we see Teeyana offering motivation to her aspiring audience, “When you want to start something, just do it. Don’t feel like you need to have everything perfect.” She then concludes the video with a letter to her younger self, sharing, “21-year-old Teeyana, I thank you for being brave and taking that leap and coming on to this channel”.
What did you think? As much as Teeyana thought her video was “cringey”, it was utterly wonderful going back in time and seeing her first ever upload. We wish her all the best, and we are extremely excited to see what the next five years bring!
