“It is tempting to sleep in just because you can.”
With many of us studying or working from home right now, the struggle to stay productive is real, and who better to get advice from than motivation and productivity YouTuber, Ruby Granger. Ruby shares some great tips in her video How am I always so productive? (Ultimate Productivity Guide during lockdown).
While the video is targeted at studying, it can be adapted if you are working from home or just want to be productive around the house.
Ruby breaks her tips down into different sections: boosting motivation, finding structure, dealing with boredom, study spaces and, finally, some bonus tips and tricks.
Now, we like to think we are a productive bunch here at TenEighty, but there are some things Ruby touched on that we need consider. She stresses the importance of routine, in particular having a morning and evening routine, to help set you up for the day ahead.
Ruby also recommends watching live Study with Me videos. She explains, “This is where you have a real-time person studying on video and you can work alongside them.” This can be a great way to introduce a library atmosphere to your study space, which makes you feel like you are held accountable to carry on with your work, even whilst socially distancing. Ruby has uploaded several Study with Me videos recently if you want to give this a try.
It is safe to say that whilst spending an entire day with Netflix might sound like a dream, after a while it can get pretty boring and end up being a lot less satisfying than we might like. As Ruby says, “Our society is fast-paced, there’s always something to do.” She suggests making a list of things you can do when you are bored, so you can look back on it for ideas on what to do to keep your spirits up. It is really important to write this list when you are in a positive mindset, so you will have a ready list of positive actions you can take to beat back that dreary isolation boredom.
Finding a place to sit down for work and study in the home can be tricky. Many of our homes are not designed for this. Therefore, we need to create our spaces to get things done. Ruby suggests having a few places to study, so you can switch things up. Another tip she shares is making sure your study areas are stocked with everything you need to avoid the distraction of having to stop and hunt for something.
We love how well-researched this video is, with the majority of tips backed up by studies or insights from professionals. The aim of the video is to work more productively from home and also be happier in doing so and this video does exactly that.
There you have it, the top tips on productivity from the productivity guru herself. We don’t know about you, but we are about to have the most productive week we have had in a while thanks to Ruby.
