When you’re a YouTuber in lockdown, you have to get quite creative to make sure your content isn’t all the same. Well, WillNE decided to get every single content creator in his phone contacts to sing the internet’s favourite song – All Star by Smash Mouth – without realising.
“Since we’re all stuck inside, I thought all of my mates and companions will have no reason not to answer their phone,” said Will, when explaining how the idea came about.
Throughout the video we then see a huge wave of YouTubers answer their phone and start ‘singing’ the words to All Star, completely unaware.
Will does this by asking his friends questions where the answers are all lyrics. They’re all done at random intervals of the song so no one comes close to figuring it out, despite a few of them thinking Will is up to something from the beginning of the video.
While the idea is fun, we do see a range of difficulty when it comes to getting people to say the right thing.
KSI kicks it off well by correctly saying the opposite of ‘nobody’ is ‘somebody’, while Stephen Tries gets the right answer with ‘roll’ when asked if it’s “not a cob, not a bap, it’s a bacon…”
However, it quickly goes downhill.
Not long after his first success, Stephen tries again. According to him, the opposite of ‘somebody’ is ‘YouTuber’, which instantly prompts a sigh from Will.
Memeulous starts off well by answering his phone without his regular disguise, returning later with a white bath towel wrapped around his head.
Though the best response comes from Morgz, who says he would “film it” if he saw a girl crying in a coffee shop, rather than ask her ‘what’s wrong’, which is the actual answer Will is looking for.
Eventually, Will manages to get all the lyrics ‘sung’ by the creators and we end up with an amazing, auto-tuned masterpiece.
