It’s a new year, which means it’s time for a new round of YouTube predictions.
We don’t know about you, but we consider ourselves YouTube experts. For over half a decade, we’ve dedicated our lives to covering the site and its creators, from major announcements and milestones, to the rise of certain video genres. As such, we feel that makes us qualified to predict what will happen next on the site. In 2018, we successfully predicted that BookTube would become one of YouTube’s most popular genres, while in 2019 we said Niko Omilana‘s channel would reach one million subscribers!
Sure, we might have missed the mark on a few of our predictions over the years, but we think we’ve done pretty well overall. That’s why we’re doing it again for 2020! What do we think will happen on YouTube during the start of the decade? Which creators do we think will blow up? Keep on reading to find out!
Carrie Hope Fletcher will continue her world domination
Is there anything Carrie Hope Fletcher can’t do? Not only is she a West End star, but she’s a bestselling author, musical artist, YouTuber and marathon runner, not to mention aunt to three of the cutest nephews in existence! She already accomplished a lot, so what could she possibly do next? Let us tell you…
The world is Carrie’s oyster and you can bet she’ll be taking advantage of every opportunity she’s afforded. She’s already got some pretty busy plans, which include the release of a children’s book, a concert in Japan (WOW!) and running the London Marathon, and you can bet she has more up her sleeve that she’s not yet able to announce. Who knows, maybe she’ll be the next person to walk on the moon or star in her own one-woman show, maybe even discover a new species of insect! We wouldn’t put it past her.
Tati Kapaya’s channel will surge in popularity
Show of hands: who here is a major fan of Tati Kapaya‘s YouTube channel? Good, we’re glad to see you all raised your hands. Her channel is one of the best with under 10,000 subscribers, and we predict it’ll only keep growing over the next year!
Tati’s channel has everything a YouTube viewer could possibly want: music suggestions, travel and daily vlogs, advice videos, hauls – you name it, Tati’s filmed it! That’s one of the reasons why we feel her channel has drawn such a dedicated and loving audience. Pair her content with her upbeat and bubbly personality and you’ve got a recipe for success! As such, it’s without question that her channel will be one of the fastest growing over 2020. You better subscribe now, so you can say you’ve been a fan since the early days!
Tag videos will make a comeback
If there’s one thing we miss about the old YouTube days, it’s tag videos. We loved getting to learn a bit more about our favourite creators, from secrets about their past to what they really think about the latest television shows and musical releases. Unfortunately, it appears these types of videos are a thing of the past… Or are they?
We here at TenEighty HQ feel 2020 will be the year they make their triumphant return, and this ray of hope is all thanks to Evan Edinger, who a few months ago shared an extension of the classic TMI Tag. This video reminded us how much we love tag videos and we hope it inspires others to bring back classics, as well as create new ones!
TikTok will continue to rise in popularity
If there’s one app that blew up toward the end of the 2010s, it was definitely TikTok. Sure, we weren’t a huge fan of the app during its Musical.ly days, but we’ve since become totally obsessed!
We were pretty heartbroken when Vine shut down and we’ve been looking for a replacement ever since. We fully feel that TikTok is that replacement and we couldn’t be happier! Not only does the app have its own creators who are filled with tons of amazing videos ideas, but it’s also started to grab the attention of many of our YouTube faves. Taha Khan, Emma Blackery, Hannah Snow, so many are utilising to app to share bite-sized moments of their lives, and we can’t wait to see who else makes the jump!
True Crime will become one of the largest genres on YouTube
One genre that’s seen a rise in popularity over the past few years is True Crime. We, as humans, have this fascination with crime, death and the ways in which people hurt each other. Maybe it’s because we can’t understand how one person could hurt another, maybe it’s because we’re secretly deranged individuals, maybe it’s because we want to learn from our past – whatever the reason, we can’t deny the impact True Crime is having on the YouTube landscape. As such, we feel it’ll officially become one of the site’s most popular genres in 2020.
Are you a True Crime fan looking for channels to subscribe to? Those to keep on your radar include Eleanor Neale, Caitlin Rose and Dark Curiosities, amongst others.
Jacksepticeye will continue to be one of the most generous YouTubers on the platform
It’s no secret that Sean McLoughlin is one of the most generous YouTubers out there. If you’re familiar with his channel, then you’ll know that he frequently hosts fundraisers for numerous charities, with one of his most popular being his annual Thankmas, which this year raised money for Child’s Play. According to his Tiltify page, Sean has raised over $3,000,000 dollars over his time on YouTube and we know that total will only rise in 2020. The man’s got a heart of gold and we couldn’t be more proud of him. If only everyone was as generous as he is!
We’ll be hearing a lot more from Leadley
If there’s one person whose music we love more than anything, it’s Leadley! We’ve been fans of hers since the early days of YouTube, when she was releasing tracks like Your Storm and Safe Lined. Oh, and we can’t forget the numerous covers she’s uploaded!
What we’ve learnt from this is the girl’s got some pipes! Seriously, we think she may be one of the best voices YouTube has ever had. As such, we feel 2020 will be her year! The songs she released toward the end of 2019 were fire and we know those she releases this year will be the same, if not better! 2020 is a new decade and we’re calling it the Decade of Leadley!
Here are a few predictions we’d really like to see happen, but know might just be wishful thinking:
- Jade Bowler, Jack Edwards, Ruby Granger and Eve Cornwell will come together to open a cafe that sells stationery, clothes and the best coffee around!
- YouTubers will stop boxing each other and come head-to-head in a new extreme sport: pillow fights!
- Benjamin Cook will finally release Becoming YouTube 2. (We can dream, right?)
- Becky James will go up against KSI in the drinking game to end all drinking games and win.
So there you have it…
Our YouTube predictions for 2020! We know this year will be the site’s biggest and we can’t wait to see what our favourite creators are able to achieve. The sky’s the limit for them, and you can bet we’ll be there to report on all they get up to!
