Goodbye, 2010s. Hello, 2020s!
It’s crazy how fast the past 10 years have flown by. It feels like only yesterday we were ringing in the new decade that would be filled with such events as VidCon London, the rise of YouTube, the reboot of the Star Wars series and much, much more. Now, we’re saying goodbye to the past and getting ready to celebrate the future, but before we do that, we wanted to be sentimental one last time.
In true TenEighty fashion, we’ll be reminiscing on the past 10 years in the only way we know how: through YouTube videos! Many of our favourite creators have uploaded videos about the 2010s and we’ve selected just a few of our favourites to share with you all. So what are we waiting for? Let’s jump into it!
THE TOP 10 FORGOTTEN MUSICALS OF THE LAST DECADE! 2010-2019 | Amy Lovatt
If there’s one thing we’re thankful for about the 2010s, it’s that numerous musicals and productions made their way to the West End stage! We thought we’d seen enough shows to satisfy our musical-loving minds for years to come, but this past decade showed there are many more we need to check out!
Amongst the most popular ones to debut, such as Hamilton and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, were gems that didn’t get the attention they so rightfully deserved. That’s where Amy Lovatt steps in, giving us the rundown on the musicals we need to add to our to-watch list. From the spectacular Something Rotten to the musical that reminds us of our childhood, Spongebob Squarepants: The Broadway Musical, this list is filled with some stellar shows that we’ll hopefully see in the coming year!
YouTube Rewind: The 2010’s | WillNE
If there’s one thing that’s gone south over the past decade, it’s YouTube Rewind. The fantastic editions of 2013 and 2014 have been tainted by the release of later videos, but does that mean we should give up all hope that another great YouTube Rewind will be released in the future? We think not!
While we wait for that to happen, you can find us watching Will Lenney and Stephen Tries‘ Rewind of the past decade. Featuring appearances from such YouTube staples as Bad Lip Reading and Chuck Testa, it’s the YouTube Rewind we all deserve. If only the execs over at YouTube would take some notes.
My Decade | 10 Years of Training! | Katie McDonnell
Extreme sports and activities are genres that exploded on YouTube over the past decade and the one that most caught our attention is definitely parkour. Maybe it’s because it’s mesmerising to watch, maybe it’s because we know we’d never have the guts to try it ourselves out of fear of breaking our necks. Whatever the reason, we’ve been totally captivated by creators who take part in it, including Katie McDonnell.
In this special video, Katie reflects on her parkour training from the past 10 years. It’s pretty cool to see how much her skills have improved over the past decade, and this video really shows just how much work one needs to put in if they wish to master a craft or activity. Keep up the good work, Katie! We can’t wait to watch where parkour takes you next.
A Decade Of Jacksepticeye | jacksepticeye
Sean McLoughlin‘s channel BLEW UP over the past decade and it’s no secret as to why. This hilarious and friendly Irishman has a knack for making gaming videos entertaining to watch with his comedic commentary and signature sayings. To say he’s one of the top channels of the 2010s would be a severe understatement, and it’s interesting to hear his perspective of the past decade in his own words.
An honest and candid chat about how he and his YouTube channel have changed, this is a type of video we don’t often see from Sean. It reminds us how down-to-earth and real he is, and why his channel has maintained the growth it has. We look forward to seeing what the 2020s have in store for him!
10 years on YouTube: what I’ve learned (brutally honest tips/advice) | leena norms
One of the UK’s OG YouTubers, Leena Normington is one of our all-time faves. She’s seen the site evolve from a place where users would upload funny cat videos to one of the internet’s go-to places. As such, she knows all the tips and tricks to keeping a YouTube channel alive, and she’s dishing out her knowledge in this video.
From creating content that means something to you, to seeing your subscribers as real people and not numbers, the advice Leena shares is something we feel all new and established creators should write down. It’s brutal honest advice for those of us who need to hear it, whether we know it or not, and, for that, we’re pretty thankful. Here’s to another 10 years, Leena!
So there you have it…
