You can never have too much Layton!
We all have that one YouTuber we can’t live without. You know, that one whose uploads we eagerly await each and every week. You might be thinking based on the title of this article that our favourite YouTuber is Daniel J. Layton, but you’d be wrong. JK, of course he is! We’ve been following Daniel since the beginning and we’ve loved every video he’s uploaded, so you can bet we were excited to see him participating in VEDJ this past June. In fact, we loved the series so much that we decided to dedicate an entire article to it.
Here they are, our 10 favourite moments from Daniel’s VEDJ series!
When he taught us how to bake cookies
In case you were unaware, Daniel is pretty good at baking. In fact, he’s so good that he has a whole video series dedicated to the activity. Oh, and did we mention his cookbook? (He can thank us for the plugs later.) That’s why we knew going into this video that we’d leave with the most delicious cookies ever baked.
We were honestly quite surprised to find this video was actually a proper tutorial. (Sort-of.) However, we do have something to complain about and that’s Daniel’s opinions on eggs in the fridge. We personally prefer our eggs a bit chilled and any other opinion is invalid. Sorry, but the truth hurts.
When he exploited TomSka’s doggos for his own content
Daniel knows one thing: everyone loves doggos, especially those belonging to Thomas Ridgewell and Charlie Belle. We mean, have you seen Pink and Squidge? They are absolutely adorbz! That’s why he simply had to make a video with them while he dogsat.
If this isn’t your dream collaboration, then we honestly don’t know what is. These three together make quite the dynamic group, and their adventures are certainly something to behold.
When he reacted to his old VEDJ videos
When it comes to reaction videos, most YouTubers react to the content they uploaded a few years ago, but not Daniel. He broke away from the crowd by reacting to videos he’d only uploaded a few days prior. (No tea, no shade, no pink lemonade.)
It’s amazing how different times were only a few days prior to Daniel filming this video. He definitely wouldn’t get away with wearing the outfits he did, and he’s right in saying that YouTube was totally different back then – oh, how we miss it. We dare you to try and not get emotional watching this.
When he discussed bullet journaling with us
Everyone and their mother is using a bullet journal nowadays as a way to keep track of their days and become organised, so who better to explain the process to us than Daniel, who has absolutely no idea what he’s doing?
Daniel makes it clear upfront that this video isn’t a tutorial on how to make the best, but that doesn’t mean the video doesn’t have any substance. He takes us through the layout of his journal, which includes an empty “tasks” page, which we relate to on a spiritual level, and a glimpse into how he planned out VEDJ. It’s all quite exciting, if we’re being honest.
When he sang us some Disney
If you ask us, Hercules is one of the most underrated Disney films out there. Everyone is obsessed with The Lion King and Frozen, but Hercules is where it’s at. The art, the storyline, the music – we love it so much!
For this instalment of VEDJ, Daniel gave us a beautiful a cappella version of Go The Distance, which honestly left us with chills. However, we do have one complaint, which is that he didn’t sing the entire song. Daniel, what do we have to do for you to sing the whole thing?
When he tried his best
Anyone who has painted their nails knows how stressful the activity is, so we were ready for the journey this VEDJ video would take us on. Whilst painting his nails, Daniel discusses his thoughts on makeup and how he enjoys people doting on him when he’s in the makeup chair on music video sets. Similar to us, he finds the whole experience to be quite heavenly.
Also, Daniel, you should know by now that people will judge you if you tell them not to. Have you never been on the internet before?
When he let us know he’s still relevant
As one gets older, it’s hard to keep in touch with what’s cool, as this video from the kickoff of VEDJ shows. The content on YouTube is always changing, as is how the site’s creators approach their videos, and it looks like Daniel hasn’t yet gotten up to speed on how things are done nowadays.
Don’t worry, Daniel, we feel you’ve definitely got the hang of it. Just remember to constantly plug your merch, scream really loudly at the camera and keep things real. Oh, and you’re right to not cash in on dodie just yet. Keep that lucrative friendship going for another year or two, then re-evaluate the situation.
When he faced his cooking nemesis
If you’re a cook, then odds are you have that one dish that gives you trouble every time you try to make it. For some, it’s a spaghetti bolognese, while for others it’s steak. For Daniel, his cooking kryptonite is pancakes. (AKA the easiest breakfast food to make.)
In this video, Daniel tries to master pancake making and the results are actually pretty good, despite how lumpy his batter was, and we are pretty impressed with his flipping technique. Would we give them a taste test? Absolutely!
When he gave us some questionable advice
We all have problems that need to be solved and who better to solve them than Daniel? Well, actually, after watching this video we’ve come to the conclusion that there are numerous other people who could have provided us with much better advice.
What did we learn while watching this? We should never ask Daniel to solve issues in our love life, nor should we seek help from him in regards to our partner’s dream of becoming a professional wrestler. His answers will probably leave us worse off than before he got involved.
When he taught us how to apply eyeliner
If you’re like us, then eyeliner is the most difficult part of your morning makeup routine. Make the line too thick and you end up looking like a raccoon or a 2010s scene kid. Make it too thin and it doesn’t even look like you’re wearing any at all. Oh, and don’t get us started about when you accidentally poke yourself in the eye with it… Ouch!
Thankfully, we have Daniel here to show us how to properly apply this demon of a makeup product. Using the proper terms and equipment, he provides us with the perfect look for a day in the office or a night on the town. We mean, who doesn’t want to look like they’ve already spent the whole day drinking?!
So there you have it…
Our 10 favourite moments from Daniel J. Layton’s VEDJ! If we’re being honest, we could have easily included all 30 videos, but then we’d be here all day. Did we include your favourite video in our list? Be sure to send us a tweet to @TenEightyUK and let us know! Who knows, if there’s enough fanfare, Daniel might participate in VEDJ again next year.
