Music is a universal language; often crossing cultural, ethnic and linguistic boundaries.
We all have songs that resonate with us, songs that make us cry, songs that motivate us, etc. If you’re anything like us, when you find that special song, you play it over and over and over again. Unlike us, however, some of you have actual musical talent and instead of just putting a song on repeat, you sit down and play it… And sometimes record a cover of it.
That’s at least what a few of our favourite YouTubers do. Some of them put their own spin on a popular song, some just record an acoustic cover. We love the covers the British YouTube community have blessed our subscription box with, so we thought, “Hey why not dedicate a Five of the Best to them?”
Without further ado, here they are, our Five of the Best: Acoustic Covers!
What Makes U Beautiful | Jake Edwards
To kick things off, we’re throwing it back to 2014. We mean, Jake Edwards covering One Direction?! How could we not?
One Direction may be dead, but their songs still make us feel alive. So, again, how could we not include this cover of What Makes You Beautiful? Releasing this song in 2011 skyrocketed the 1D boys to international fame and with comments like “I’m a Directioner and this version is definitely better” and “Someone should offer you a record deal, your perfect”, it seems like releasing this cover was a success for Jake as well.
Personally, we agree with Jake’s fans; as much as we love 1D, this version is better.
I Fall Apart (Acoustic Cover) Post Malone | Elisa Spigariol
We can all probably agree that 2018 was the year of Post Malone, right? Right. So, it only makes sense that there were hundreds of Post Malone covers uploaded to YouTube, right? Right.
Well, we believe that we have found THE Post Malone cover. And who uploaded it, you might ask? None other than the lovely Elisa Spigariol and her sister. With a mix of Elisa’s beautiful voice, her sister’s beautiful guitar playing and the beautiful winter setting, we are convinced there’s no better cover out there.
Hey Jude (cover) | stuffbyJas
Before there was One Direction, there were The Beatles. The Beatles were the original “take the world by storm” band, so it would be wrong for us to include a 1D cover and not a The Beatles cover.
Leave it to Jas Ratchford to take our breath away with this wonderful rendition of Hey Jude that she did in 2016. Jas shows off not only her singing skills, but her uke skills, and we think Paul, Ringo, John and George would be impressed with her.
if i didn’t have you – monsters inc uke cover | Liana Flores
Yes, you read that right! Liana Flores is here to brighten your day with the most incredible song choice there is.
We know we aren’t the only ones who love a good Pixar movie and, to be honest, Monsters Inc. is up there with the best of the best. We mean, who doesn’t love Mike and Sully, amirite?! If I Didn’t Have You gives us all of the nostalgic feelings, so we can’t help but put this cover on repeat. It just brings us so much joy and we know that it will bring you guys joy, too!
For Baltimore Cover | Patty Walters
Now, this is what we call a throwback, so we had to save it for last.
Before Patty Walters was 1/3 of As It Is and 1/3 of Crazy88, he was just a guy who uploaded videos to YouTube in the hopes of furthering himself as a musician. Uploading covers of songs that meant something to him every week for five years was no small task, and while we miss those weekly videos in our subscription box we are so, so glad he’s living his dream. So, to keep up with the trend of nostalgia that we accidentally set for this article, here’s Patty’s cover of For Baltimore by All Time Low.
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Acoustic Covers! We hope that the accidental theme of nostalgia we put into this article didn’t put you too far in your feelings. Hopefully, you guys can jam out to these covers as we have.
