Can you believe how much good music was released this week?
Seriously, what did we do for the music gods to bestow us with such ear gems? Firstly, YouTube’s resident sweetheart, dodie, released her new single, Guiltless, which you can bet we’ve featured below. As well, the queen herself, Miley Cyrus, released her new EP, SHE IS COMING, and it’s filled with some top club bangers we expect to be partying to throughout the summer. If this past week is any indication, then this summer is going to be a good one for music and we can’t wait to see what else gets released.
You know what else we’re looking forward to this season? All the amazing videos our fave YouTubers will be uploading! We’re expecting some stellar (and jealousy-inducing) travel vlogs, some great festival looks and much more. While we await these warm weather-inspired videos, let’s dive into the Weekly Round-Up!
Application for the role of PRIME MINISTER | Lex Croucher
With Theresa May’s resignation, we’ll soon be looking for a new Prime Minster to lead the UK, and it looks like those we regularly watch on YouTube are throwing their hats into the ring. Yes, that’s right, Lex Croucher has made a video application on why we should all elect her as the country’s next leader.
Now, we know what you’re thinking: a YouTuber as Prime Minister? Surely, we can’t be that desperate for good leadership? Well, actually, yes. Yes, we are. We mean, do you not see the current state of the country? We think Lex’s political platform is a pretty good one. Sure, she plans to cut welfare spending in half and there’s the fact she might secretly be a satan worshipper, but she’s also pledged to make a Love Island spinoff completely about dogs and that’s honestly all we needed to hear for her to be guaranteed our vote.
Come election time, vote for Lex!
Climate Denial: A Measured Response | hbomberguy
If you’ve been on Twitter the past week, odds are you’ve seen the clip going around of Harry Brewis breaking his way through a wall after listening to Ben Shapiro’s response to climate change. (It’s golden.) That clip is just a small section of a roughly 40 minute video from Harry, where he looks at climate change denial and those who support it.
We highly suggest giving this video a watch, as Harry goes through the arguments those who deny climate change base their opinions on and debunks them in a way that’s measured and evidence-based. We honestly don’t know how anyone nowadays can deny this is happening, given the extreme weather we’ve been experiencing and the environmental changes that are happening, and we’re happy there are people like Harry willing to knock some sense into those who claim the opposite.
Guiltless (Lyric Video) | doddleoddle
We told you we’d be featuring Guiltless in this week’s Round-Up. We mean, how could we not? Every time dodie releases a new song, we feel the need to celebrate. She’s just so precious and she’s constantly flooring us with her lyrical abilities. As such, we feel the need to spotlight her whenever possible.
As dodie herself explains, the song explores “anger, damage, resentment, guilt, exhaustion and somewhere, forgiveness”, and it’s definitely one of her strongest releases to date. We can tell it’s a deeply personal song to her and we want to thank her for finding the strength to share her emotions with us in regards to what’s obviously a difficult topic for her to talk about. Now, time to put this track on repeat!
The Final Slice | Jack and Dean
It’s always a good week on YouTube when Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs grace us with a new comedy sketch, so you can bet we immediately clicked on this video upon discovering it in our subscription feed.
Everyone knows that one of the biggest crimes someone can commit is eating the last slice of pizza. Not only is it super greedy, it’s impolite and should therefore be punished under the full extent of the law. While we’re glad Jack is taking this seriously, we’re greatly upset at how little Dean seems to care. He’s obviously never been the victim of this heinous crime and he should count himself lucky.
Will the pair solve the case? Keep on watching to find out!
I trained an AI to write YouTube videos | Simon Clark
AI is something that’s slowly becoming a part of the mainstream world, so it’s not surprising that it would begin to make its way into the world of YouTube. In this video, Simon Clark lets an AI algorithm plan out what he’s to animate and perform, all based on what previous creators have done on their own channels.
This is a pretty interesting video to watch, and it’s amazing how closely the algorithm was able to match the style of the YouTubers Simon chose to “teach” it… It’s also kind of eerie. But it’s better for us to know what AI can do and why it’s here to stay, so, for that, we thank Simon for the super interesting and educational video. Like always, he’s helped to expand our brains.
Want more? Of course, you do!
Life gets pretty hectic and, as such, we forget to set aside some time for ourselves. Amelia G reminds us to do so in this video, where she offers up some tips on how to show ourselves self-love!
The lads over at The RH Experience brought on Sammy Paul for the latest episode of their Twosomes series. This time around, they’re taking part in the Front Egg Challenge, which is exactly what it sounds like.
Can you believe it, a YouTuber has finally appeared on Love Island! Yep, it’s true, our very own Lucia Keskin is on the iconic ITV2 show… Or is she?
Orla Gartland has recorded a live session for her song Overthinking and we honestly can’t stop watching it. Her voice, her guitar playing, the awesome lighting – can you see why we’re obsessed?
