In her new series titled Mimi on a Mission: Sex Ed, Mimi Missfit takes seven teenagers from across Britain on a week-long trip to the Netherlands to find out how the Dutch teach sex education.
The teenagers, all aged 14 or 15 years old, were taken on the trip to find out some eye-opening information about the open and progressive attitude that Dutch people have towards topics surrounding sex – from bodies to keeping safe online.
Each episode covers a different topic relating to sex, which include: first love, safe sex, LGBTQ+ and self love. The second episode introduces viewers to host Mimi and her mum, in which they discuss Mimi’s sheltered upbringing in relation to sex.
When speaking about the series, Mimi said, “Flying to Holland with seven teenagers last October was one of the highlights of last year. I can’t wait for people to see what we got up to.”
“Coming such a traditional African household the topic of sex is not something that is spoken about. Through this show I learned so much, from body positivity, consent in relationships, different contraceptives to self love and I can’t wait for viewers to see”.
At the end of the series, the group return home and the teenagers share everything they’ve learnt with family, school friends and even with experts at a sexual education conference.
The series is exclusive to BBC iPlayer and will be available to view as a box set from 5 April 2019.
