“Your happiness or enjoyment are pretty much irrelevant to the computer as long as you stay on the app.”
This week has been slightly bonkers, especially with all the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. But what really pushed it onto the weirder side of life is the new J.K. Rowling meme. Honestly, we’re just trying to get through this Round-Up without J.K. yelling more about Dumbledore’s sex life.
On with the Round-Up!
The Social Media Conspiracy. | Luke Cutforth
In Luke Cutforth‘s video, he dives into the interesting topic of “machine learning” and teaches us how it’s already affecting and shaping our everyday lives.
If you don’t know, machine learning is an algorithm that’s set up to do a certain task or solve a problem. Machines can do this one million times faster than a human and, as Luke shares, these tasks can be anything from making everybody happy to making more people look at our page. But machines don’t get everything right the first time. It’s a trial and error to get the perfect result.
There is one fatal flaw in this technique: just because we see something on Instagram that makes us look at it or stay on the app longer, it doesn’t actually mean that we wanted to see that post. This can have an incredibly negative impact on users and even accidentally encourage worrisome behaviour.
definitive proof captain marvel is gay (spoilers) | Rowan Ellis
Rowan Ellis is on a walking, one take rant all about Marvel Studio‘s Captain Marvel and its possible but lack of gayness. This video is truly a treasure, but if you haven’t seen Captain Marvel yet don’t watch it, as it talks about key plot points in the film!
Many have said that they think this film is queer-coding, but Rowan argues that it’s actually romance-coding. This is when a romantic relationship is implied or heavily set up, but never done with or addressed within the film. But does this film have a lack of relationship because the two characters are two women?
i went to rome for 24 hours!? call me a tRaVel vLogGeR | byron
Byron Denton and his friends booked a trip to Rome for 24 hours on a whim and, of course, silly antics followed in the form of this vlog. He saw some wonderful sights and made us pretty jealous when watching the video. We’ve never been to Rome before and this left us wanting to book a last-minute trip their ourselves!
Our favourite part was perhaps when Bryon had to sneak out of the hotel because it was only booked for two people, not three.
TOP 3 NETFLIX RECOMMENDATIONS (March 2019) | ladyoftheinternet
If you’re looking for a new binge-watch this March, then you need Livvy‘s Netflix suggestions. She shares three great, but very different shows with an in-depth look at each. One of these, if not all three, is bound to tickle your fancy!
The three shows she recommends are the sitcom, Always Sunny in Philadelphia; the detective book-turned-TV-show, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency; and the horror show, The Haunting.
Who hogs The Duvet? Q&A feat. Oliver | Carrie Hope Fletcher
Carrie Hope Fletcher is joined by boyfriend and fellow actor Oliver Ormson for an adorable domestic Q&A. The video starts off with a discussion of the most important topic: what is the perfect cup of tea? Carrie bases her perfect cup off of its colour, but Oliver times. Maybe with these two methods, they shouldn’t make the other tea…
They also share the story of how they met. Carrie was cast in The Addams Family: The Musical Comedy and met Oliver during a chemistry test for her onstage partner. She describes him during their first meeting as “handsome, but terrifying” because of the character he was auditioning for. Luckily, he got the part and the rest is history.
Want more? Of course, you do!
