What do you get when you mix Jamie with January? Jamuary!
One of the things we love most about YouTube are the monthly series our faves choose to partake in. Whether it be VEDIJ (Vlog Every Day In January) or Vlogmas, they’re always up for pushing themselves and their channels. This past January, we saw many of them taking on such challenges, filling our sub boxes with oodles of new content. It’s as if Christmas extended into the new year and we were definitely not complaining!
Everyone knows we’re huge fans of the art Jamie Jo frequently shares on her channel, so you can bet we were excited for her own monthly take, Jamuary. This series saw her stepping outside the box when it came to her art and we were blown away with the results! So much so we decided to dedicate a whole article to it!
Here they are, our seven favourite videos from Jamie Jo’s Jamuary!
Painting Little Mermaid with a FORK
It probably wouldn’t cross the average artist’s mind to paint with a fork. But, then again, Jamie isn’t your average artist. We’re not surprised Jamie chose to make the Little Mermaid‘s Ariel the subject of this piece, as she’s the only character we can think of that loves little trinkets like that.
We were blown away at how much detail and colour variation Jamie was able to make using only the prongs of a fork and, while we can only imagine how stressful this would be, she hardly let it show. We can guarantee Tom Burns wasn’t the only one in awe of the finished piece! How on earth was she able to do it?!
One Paint Color Challenge!
What’s your favourite colour? Pink? Green? What about a lovely sky blue? Now, imagine having to paint using only that one colour. We can already see you starting to sweat.
Your average person might be scared away by a challenge such as this, but not Jamie. Using only the colour orange, she decided to paint Brave‘s Merida. We applaud her choice to use watercolour, as it allowed her to easily create different shading, and we honestly can’t get over how cool Merida’s hair looks! We’re seriously obsessed; it looks so magical!
Most Underrated Animated Movies
Jamie didn’t just dedicate the whole of Jamuary to showing off her artistic skills. She also made videos about her other passions, including her love for animated films. In the video, she shares with us her top underrated ones. Prepare to have hours upon hours of movies to watch the next time you find yourself snowed or experiencing the worst of rain storms.
While there are many stellar titles on this list, our top faves would definitely have to be Cat’s Don’t Dance, which we feel is the most underrated of them all; the Digimon movie, for those of you who like Pokémon and are looking for something a bit different; and Kronk’s New Groove, the most underrated of sequels.
Painting with Rainbow BUTTONS
Prepare for a throwback to when Jamie was still living across the pond in America. This video was filmed quite a while ago and was meant to be upload to another channel. While that didn’t happen, we’re happy to say Jamie kept hold the footage and decided to share it with her viewers during Jamuary.
We love it when two mediums come together to create something cool and unique. That’s exactly what Jamie did here, combining acrylic paint and buttons to make a tree made up of every colour of the rainbow. While we can only imagine how long it took for her to glue down all those buttons, we appreciate her keeping her sense of humour with the voice over. Her descriptions, which ranged from “this shape” and “this colour”, definitely made us laugh.
How to Make a GIANT KIRBY
Kirby is definitely one of the most iconic video game characters around, so we’re pretty sure you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t a fan. That’s why you should send this video to everyone you know, in case they’ve ever dreamed of having a giant Kirby in their flat.
The process seems simple enough. All you need are your typical crafting supplies and a giant pink exercise ball. Sure, pumping up the ball might be a bit tiring, but you’ll find yourself LOVING the finished result. Prepare to “awe” at how adorable it looks!
Make Glitter Latte Art AT HOME
While Jamie primarily sticks to working on canvas, she’ll sometimes deviate from the norm to make some fantastic food creations that leave our stomaches rumbling and our mouths watering. That’s exactly what she did with this video, where she taught us how to make glitter lattes!
Considering we’re still floored whenever the barista at our local cafe makes a design in our latte, you can bet we were all for learning how to do this at home, especially with edible glitter! We’re happy to say it’s not as hard as we first thought it to be, so we can pretty much guarantee this is how we’ll be making all our lattes from now on.
Painting with Makeup Products
Makeup is technically paint for your face, so it should transfer perfectly onto paper, right?
In this video, Jamie takes her everyday makeup and uses it to paint a Toy Story-themed piece on watercolour paper. Honestly, if you were to ask us if she used makeup or traditional art supplies, we wouldn’t be able to tell you! The detail and blending are superb, and this project has left us with an itch to give painting with makeup a try ourselves!
So there you have it…
Our seven favourite videos from Jamie Jo’s Jamuary. In case you couldn’t tell, we’re pretty much her biggest fans and we’re blown away time and time again at how creative and talented she is. Here’s hoping she brings back Jamuary next year, because we love having more Jamie in our lives!
