Bethan’s videos span all the way back to when she was just a teenager.
Throughout her time on YouTube there that been many standout moments, but if we took the time to share them all with you, we’d probably be here all day. We’d have no problem doing that, but we know those of you who read TenEighty lead pretty busy schedules. That’s why we’ve decided to narrow our list down to a solid eight moments, complete with films, music videos, some rebranding and chats about her past self. She’s done a lot and we wanted to highlight some of it.
Here they are, our eight favourite Bethan Leadley moments!
When she spoke to her past selves
Have you ever wondered what your past self would want you to have achieved by now? Well, Bethan doesn’t have to, given how long she’s been active on YouTube. We all love long-running series and her Replying To… series has been going on for seven years, ever since she was 16 and speaking to her older, 18 year old self. This was followed by her replying to her past self upon turning 18 and then recording a video of her speaking to her 21 year old self. Finally, she’s followed those videos up with a message to herself when she was 21.
We’ve all wondered at least once what our past selves would think of how we’re currently doing and watching someone else experience that conversation is fascinating on multiple levels.
The Darkest Dawn
In 2016, Bethan starred at Chloe Murdoch in the independent film, The Darkest Dawn, alongside fellow creator Cherry Wallis, who played Sam Murdoch. The pair starred as two sisters living through an alien apocalypse, which is pretty much our worst nightmare.
What we love most about this film is that the action-packed storyline really gave us the opportunity to see Bethan’s talents as an actress. (We were definitely impressed!)
Her music videos featuring other YouTubers
What could be better than one of Bethan’s songs? How about videos featuring all our favourite YouTubers? From Daniel J. Layton and dodie, to Tessa Violet, Emma Blackery and Tom Ridgewell, we’re not even close to scratching the surface of all the creators who appear across these music videos. It’s always great to see our faves and with songs that will stay stuck in your head for days to come, it’s somehow even better.
Music Honesty Hour
A relaxed chat about music; somehow the fact those in these videos are clearly comfortable makes the discussions even more meaningful. While there are only two episodes thus far – featuring dodie and Bry, with a minisode with actress and musician Hailee Steinfeld – the series features discussions about the music industry, pursuing music as a YouTuber and the inherent disregard YouTube musicians experience within the mainstream media.
Despite Bethan’s insistence that the name is lame, we think it summarises what the series is about. The success of musicians who had their start on YouTube is something we love to hear about here at TenEighty HQ and there isn’t a shortage of those within these videos!
The release of All of You
The first music video under her Leadley moniker definitely did not disappoint. Not only do we LOVE the song, the music video, which was directed and edited by Mandy Celine, has a very domestic feel to it and is a reflection of the lyrics Bethan has written. Throughout the song, she refers to wanting all of someone, not just sexually, but also intimately and with all the “feels”.
Her work with 4Music
Bethan certainly achieved her 18 year old self’s goal of becoming a presenter, with her getting a job on music channel 4Music’s UK Music Video Chart and Upfront. Through her work with the channel, she’s also been able to interview a wide range of musicians, including Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheern and Little Mix. (Does anyone else think that sounds like a dream?)
The Gold Star for Me video
Does anyone else remember when dodie worked for CokeTV?
If you do, then you should remember when she and Bethan made a music video together. We all love the song, but we also love the video, which emphases its message. That message? That even when things aren’t working out, you can still be a good friend, which leaves everyone feeling good, happy and filled with friendship, even after a long day.
Her monthly vlogs
Who doesn’t love monthly vlogs?
Bethan’s vlogs throughout the course of 2018 gave us a brilliant glimpse into how she’s been keeping busy, from a trip to Disneyland and a shoot with Cosmopolitan, to watching her prepare for the release of her new EP. This insight into her life has allowed us to see how hard she works at everything she makes, and we love seeing her and the rest of our faves having fun together!
So there you have it…
Our eight favourite moments, featuring Bethan! We’re sure you loved them as much as we did, and we feel now is the perfect time to share how we’re constantly amazed by what this girl makes and how much she’s been able to accomplish. We can’t wait to see what she takes on next!
