Bon Appetit!
Whether or not you actually get around to making a dish from one, everybody loves a cooking video! Covering everything from baking and budget cooking, to how to recreate your favourite takeaway meals, cooking videos are a huge part of YouTube, be it from dedicated food channels or your favourite creators.
If you’re hungry (or just hungry for content), be sure grab a snack and dig into our Five of the Best: Cooking Videos!
The ULTIMATE CHINESE ‘TAKE AWAY’ BATTLE | SORTEDfood
It wouldn’t be an article about cooking without the lads over at SORTEDfood. Ben Ebbrell, Mike Huttlestone, Jamie Spafford and Barry Taylor have been creating mouth-watering recipes on YouTube for nearly a decade now, and in their most recent video (at time of writing) they tackle the ever popular Chinese takeaway.
With crispy duck pancakes, sweet and sour chicken and sticky ribs on the menu, we certainly had as hard a time picking the winner as the judges did, but at least we’ve got more than enough inspiration for our next Friday night takeaway!
3 EASY DELICIOUS Vegan Meals for £1 TESCO | Vegan on Budget | Rachel Ama
Veganuary might be behind us, but if this New Year’s resolution has lasted into February, then this is the channel for you! Rachel Ama regularly uploads delicious vegan recipes, with everything from Caribbean food and Christmas dinner, to vegan recreations of fast food on the menu.
In this video, she takes it back to the basics, with quick and cheap recipes for vegan spaghetti bolognese, chickpea curry and a fresh vegetable bowl. Even better, if you’re on a budget, all these meals come in under £1, with all the ingredients available from Tesco’s. If you’ve been thinking about going vegan, this could be your perfect starting point.
£2 FAMILY MEALS | COOKING ON A BUDGET | Kerry Whelpdale
Continuing with our budget-friendly meals, this video from Kerry Whelpdale shows you how to cater for the whole family. With a carbonara, a chickpea and spinach curry, a tomato pasta (with garlic bread!) and bean chilli, Kerry offers a huge variety to kick-start your culinary escapades.
The best part is all these recipes are really simple, meaning they can be expanded upon and adapted to your tastes and requirements. Get cooking!
Popping Popcorn in super Slow Motion | The Slow Mo Guys
Dan Gruchy says he “feels like I’m on a cooking show” at the start of this video, so that’s enough for us! In this video, he and Gavin Free explore how popcorn is created in super slow motion.
Although you can’t make a meal out of popcorn (allegedly) like you can with other ingredients, it’s still interesting to see how one of our favourite snacks gets made. Even at 100 times slower than real life, it’s still too fast for the camera to keep up!
GETTING FATTER WITH TOMSKA (and Daniel J Layton) #CONTENT | DarkSquidge
Now, we can’t endorse you roll up a pizza stuffed with Doritos, jalapeños and sour cream like a fajita and eat it, but that won’t stop us from including it in this Five of the Best.
In this video, Tom Ridgewell and Daniel J. Layton take a beer and hot sauce-tinged trip into the surreal, as they cook up some of the more questionable culinary choices Tom has made throughout his life. As well as the pizza monstrosity, you’re also treated to a bacon and chicken sandwich made with oven waffles and eggs. At least Squidge liked it!
We can’t say it’s good for you, but it’s certainly hilarious. (And delicious!)
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Cooking Videos! With Chinese food, vegan food, affordable food and whatever you want to call what Tom made, we hope we’ve got your taste buds tingling. With cooking being such an important part of YouTube, and so many exciting food cultures left to explore, there’s sure to be some videos we’ve missed. Who do you think we should include in our next cooking-related Five of the Best? Be sure to send us a tweet and let us know!
