“New year, new me.” That’s how the saying goes, right?
It’s become common practice over the years. At the start of each year, we grab a sheet of paper and write down everything we hope to achieve during the next 365 days, from self-improvement to some long held aspirations. It’s fun and exciting to plan for the year ahead, but it can also be kind of daunting and a bit overwhelming. That’s why we’re here to help, with the input of a few of our favourite YouTubers.
Whether you’re looking for some goal inspiration or are simply in need of some advice on how to best achieve the resolutions you’ve set out for yourself, the following five videos are sure to point you in the right direction. Prepare to start off the year on the right foot, it’s our Five of the Best: New Year’s Resolutions 2019!
NEW YEAR NEW ME?| NOTHING CHANGES UNTIL YOU DO| 2019 RESOLUTIONS | Yanique Sharifa
Kicking off our first Five of the Best of the year is this video from Yanique Sharifa, who explains that setting resolutions isn’t enough to change our lives. If we want to achieve our goals and do what we’ve set out for ourselves, then we have to change our mindset and put in the effort.
This is a very important video with a message we feel everyone needs to hear. While it’s fun to make resolutions, we have to remember that change is a constant thing, and thus we should be making small changes on a regular, even daily, basis. Working toward the goals we’ve set out for ourselves is a process and we need to make sure we equip ourselves to not only achieve them, but to prepare us for what life will undoubtedly throw our way. If we’re properly prepared, we’ll achieve not only the resolutions we’ve set out for ourselves this year, but the goals and dreams we’ve long held.
We can’t thank Yanique enough for her inspirational words!
MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS! | Lydia Violeta
After reacting to her 2018 New Year’s resolutions, Lydia Violeta has come at us with a whole new list of goals, guaranteed to make her 2019 the most productive and fun it can possibly be!
Of all the resolutions Lydia lists, it’s the second one that really strikes a chord with us: finding balance. Finding a balance in life is difficult for many of us, especially since we have to juggle school, work, responsibilities and our social lives. Oftentimes, our wellbeing is often forgotten – it’s not intentional, it just happens. That’s why we think everyone should join Lydia in this resolution! Make sure to put an emphasis on your mental health and things you enjoy, and you just might be able to find the balance we’ve all been looking for.
CLASSICS I WANT TO READ IN 2019 | lucythereader
One item we’re sure will be making an appearance on many New Year’s resolutions lists is people challenging themselves to read more in 2019. Whether it be setting a numerical goal for yourself or challenging yourself to dive into a certain genre, we here at TenEighty HQ are always advocating reading more, and that’s exactly Lucy Powrie will be doing this year!
Lucy has challenged herself to read a whole host of classics in 2019. Her list includes titles she feels are outside her comfort zone, to author’s she’s already a fan of and some War-themed poetry. If you’re in need of some literary inspiration, we highly suggest checking out the titles on this list. Might we suggest the works of Mary Shelley or Charles Dickens?
2019 Goal Setting! | New Year’s Resolutions | Anna Saccone
New Year’s resolutions aren’t for everyone. Most of the time, we think too broad or set goals we know aren’t realistic, and thus when we fail/don’t achieve them we don’t feel too great about ourselves. That’s why Anna Saccone-Joly isn’t setting any resolutions this year. Instead, she’s giving herself monthly goals, and we’re totally on board with this idea.
The idea behind this video is that, by setting herself smaller goals for each month, Anna is more likely to achieve them and feel much more productive. From small things like drinking more water throughout the day (something we should all get into the habit of doing) to relaunching her blog, these are much more focused and achievable goals and we look forward to Anna setting more for herself throughout the year.
WHY I’M NOT SHOPPING IN 2019 – my no-buy challenge | leena norms
Closing out this week’s Five of the Best is a video from Leena Normington, who is challenge herself to break away from the grips of consumerism by not shopping for the first half of 2019.
The idea for this challenge came from US vlogger Hannah Louise Poston, who recently completed a full no-buy year. As Leena explains, she’s looking to redefine how she views money during the next six months, in the hopes of saving money to finance future projects. It’s an interesting watch, with Leena touching on the affects consumerism and shopping culture have had on not just herself, but on society as a whole, and this video has left us rethinking our own habits. Here’s to being more responsible with money in 2019!
So there you have it…
