The award, launched this year, recognises “young people who are changing the world”.
Ellen joins fellow nominees Xiuhtezcatl “X” Martinez, Sonita Alizadeh, Mohamed Al Jounde and Hauwa Ojeifo in the category, with the winner being announced next month.

In a video on the MTV EMA website, Ellen said: “When I began campaigning, I specifically focussed on improving LGBTQ+ equality, running campaigns in my school, my local community and online in order to affect this change.”
The Generation Change Award will be amongst those presented as part of the event, which will take place in Bilbao, Spain on 4 November.
The awards can be watched via livestream and by tuning in to MTV.
People can vote in the award category by posting the hashtag #MTVEMA on both Twitter and Instagram, along with the relevant hashtag for their favourite nominee.
