“Are you the solution or the complication? Are you the pastor or the congregation?”
We all need a little bit of self-reflection and motivation in our life and in his latest video the monopoly mentality, Suli Breaks explains exactly why we need to take control of our lives.
The spoken word poem is about taking ownership of your life. As he writes in the description box of the video, “the analogy in human behavior is claimed to be that people often become dissatisfied in situations (career or ambition wise) while conforming with the acceptable standard of their environments and rather than assume responsibility for their circumstance they become dependant on luck/chance to change it for them.”
The truth is, we have all been there, faced situations out of our control – from where we went to school to the time we missed out on that job we had our eye on. It can impact how we see the world and often leaves us feeling powerless. Through his spoken word poem, Suli shares exactly why we need to understand that WE have the power to ultimately determine our fate. As he says, “you got to control your life, you can’t rely on the roll of the dice.”
During the video he makes a lot of references to the fact we may work hard but that does not mean the world will give us what we deserve. We need to have the courage go out and seek it ourselves. The line “say you want to be the topic of conversation, when opportunity knocks you’re still asking for confirmation” struck a chord with us as we often naturally seek validation from others before we look for it from within ourselves.
Throughout the video, we are reminded of how it is our actions, not the actions of others which dictate our future. It is something we are definitely going to be more self aware of. After all, as Suli says, “you only got one chance on this ting – no re-dos or walk throughs.”
If you’re at a crossroads in your life or need a little kick up the backside, this is powerful spoken word about taking control of your own life and your own actions is exactly what you need!
