Life’s Library is set to be a celebration of “good books and good communities”.
The book club, created by John Green, Rosianna Halse Rojas and DFTBA.com, will see a group of people read a book every six weeks for a year before discussing it in a Discord channel.
The books, chosen by John and Rosianna, will all be at least a year old and will cover a broad range of genres “from YA novels, to mysteries, to memoirs”.
“We want to read broadly and celebrate lots of different kinds of books,” John said in a video uploaded to the Vlogbrothers YouTube channel.
In the video, the author also went on to add they would only be able to go ahead with the project “if enough people sign up”, saying that they “can’t promise that it’s going to happen”.
If there is enough interest in the book club, the first book will be If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson.
Two subscriptions are available for those interested, with the physical subscription including a copy of the book, a lapel pin, a discussion guide and other bonus gifts.
Meanwhile, a digital subscription involves downloads and resources being emailed to the subscriber, but does not include a copy of the book.
There is also the option for individuals to join the Discord chat and borrow the book from a library if they can’t afford a subscription.
The physical subscription is priced at $25 with no shipping costs, while the digital version costs $10.
All profits from the book club will go to Partners in Health – a charity dedicated to helping people in poverty gain access to healthcare.
Subscriptions are open until 16 November, with the first books being sent out before Christmas if the project goes ahead.
More information about the book club can be found on the Life’s Library website.
