Her songs and spirit are unmatched.
We live in the golden age of music on YouTube, with tons of artists and bands at different stages in their careers sharing original music across the platform. Some are even releasing their own music videos, which are leaving audiences both impressed and entertained. One of our favourite singer-songwriters on the site right now is Libby Tidley. Libby’s released four EPs to date, including the stunning visual EP, Thorns. She has the voice of an angel and we’ve been hooked since we discovered her. Prepare for the same to happen with you.
Here’s a look at the nine times Libby Tidley stunned us all and proved she’s got some mega music chops!
Coffee and Toothpaste | Official Music Video
Perhaps Libby’s tour de force (in our opinion) is the music video for her single, Coffee and Toothpaste, a brilliant song she first released months before filming the video for it. It’s charming, it’s clever and it has an incredibly satisfying narrative conclusion – what more could you want?! We’ve never been this cheerful listening to a breakup song.
30 Songs in 7 Minutes | Taylor Swift Medley
Libby’s channel shines with not only original song, but impressive covers and inventive medleys focusing around her various favourite artists. Our favourite medley? The one she dedicated to Taylor Swift. It combines almost every single one of Taylor’s singles as of the time of recording in 2016, and it’s a fun look at her evolution through the years.
Libby, is it too much to ask for an updated version that includes the Reputation era?
Be Brave, Stand Strong | Original Song | VEDA 25
Long time viewers of Libby’s will know of Be Brave, Stand Strong. It’s one of her earlier original songs, but it’s every bit as inspiring now as it was when it was released. It features a lyrical echo that strikes the perfect tone for her encouraging words about perseverance in the face of adversary.
If you’re looking for a little strength today, we suggest giving it a listen.
Love Is Just A Lie | OFFICIAL 360 MUSIC VIDEO
Heartbreaking lyrics? Haunting production? A 360° music video that includes interpretive dance? SOLD. The story of this video plays out between three dancers in a brilliant use of 360° video, while Libby lurks in the corner throughout, singing through her pain.
The Greatest by Sia | Cover
The Greatest was written by Sia as an ode to the LGBTQ+ community, which Libby, who identifies as pansexual, embraces through the use of her pride flag face makeup. Her pure vocals shine through in this stripped back cover that emphasises just how sobering and inspiring this song is.
Shivers | Original Song
We dare you to listen to Shivers and NOT get chills.
The eerie lyrics of the track mix with the minimalist piano melody to paint a vivid mental image of chases and fear. It’s difficult to scare someone when the video frame also includes an Olaf plushie, but Libby pulls it off masterfully.
Tell Me Something I Don’t Know by Selena Gomez | Cover w/ Zannah
There are a few videos on Libby’s channel featuring the lovely Zannah Perrins, including this heartfelt cover of Selena Gomez’s Tell Me Something I Don’t Know. Their voices sound positively angelic together as they strum through this empowering song.
Honestly, we live for the little smiles they both have the first time they sing the lyrics, “What it takes to make you smile.”
It’s A Revolution (Oh Buddy!) | Original Song
We don’t know what we love most about this video: the fun lyrics, the gorgeous vocals or Libby’s absolutely incredible glitter makeup? The layering of the vocals and the excellent editing showcase Libby’s growth as an artist and video maker over the years.
Terrors of the Night | Official Music Video
Libby is constantly pushing herself as an artist, including recently making a full visual EP. One song from the Thorns EP is Terrors of the Night, a heart wrenching song that comes with a stunning animated music video.
We won’t ruin the ending, but it’s worth watching all the way through.
Are you hooked yet?
If so, good news: Libby has dozens of more original songs and covers on her channel. As well, you can find her whole catalogue on iTunes and Spotify, so you can listen on the go as well! Don’t tell our bosses, but we’ll be jamming out to her music for the rest of the day.
