Blooming hell!
One of our own has nailed it! Troye Sivan‘s latest album, Bloom, has hit the airwaves. The reviews are in and they’re wonderful. We always knew the album would be spectacular, but it’s good to see others are in agreement. Bloom is without a doubt our #AlbumOfTheWeek!
It’s been such a great year for mainstream pop music, especially for Troye. Let’s all revisit his first album, Blue Neighbourhood, which is also a work of art in its own right – Wild was quite a banger, wasn’t it?
On to the Round-Up!
I Went UNDERCOVER as a HATE PAGE For 3 MONTHS! *SHOCKING!* | Anastasia Kingsnorth
Hate is something everyone faces at some point. For most of us, it’s normally said in person to our faces. However, for others, it’s done anonymously on the internet. Anastasia Kingsnorth is one who’s had to deal with the latter.
To try and understand that side of the internet and all it has to offer(?), Anastasia went undercover on Instagram as a hate account to investigate. It’s safe to say the results are pretty different from what most people – including us – would expect. They made for a pretty interesting and insightful video.
This isn’t a video aiming to promote hate. It looks to bring it to light and show it for what it really is.
Can Cishet Actors Play Queer Characters? | JacobTrueman
Nowadays, there is a growing pool of queer roles on both film and television. Obviously, there’s still not enough, but the amount is definitely growing. Recently, it was announced Jungle Cruise would be the first Disney film to feature an explicitly queer character, played by Jack Whitehall. It’s been nearly 100 years since Disney started – they are slow to join us in this century, it would seem.
Jacob Trueman is here to break down the backlash that’s occurred due to the cishet nature of Whitehall. This video is a nuanced argument that shows all sides in a fair and balanced manner.
The Return of Buckley | Every Sugar Pine 7 Video Ever | Completed It Mate
James Buckley is one of those people – they call them “famous”. Therefore, YouTube is something that, understandably, can’t take precedence. After being busy with TV and film projects for far too long, James is back on our computer screens.
In this video, he’s in the City of Angels (also known as Los Angeles), working out of the Sugar Pine 7 offices. They came to know each other after James came under the wing of Rooster Teeth, resulting in crossover opportunity galore. James has the ability to skewer exactly what Sugar Pine 7 do, so this video is hilarious.
We, for one, are happy he’s back!
Baking with Layton (Also Reb Day!) | Daniel J. Layton
As we get closer and closer to the release of the Baking With Layton cookbook, Daniel J. Layton is blessing us with more (highly anticipated) baking videos. This time, he’s teamed up with the wonderfully talented and always hilarious Rebecca Day!
There are jokes, japes and quite a bit of banter. There’s even a mouthwatering cake to try at the end of it all. What more could anyone ask for? And for those of you wondering, yes, it does feature a pre-Malfoy Dan, so it’s a time machine of sorts.
You Say (Official) | Sarah Close
After a 2018 that’s thus far featured some turbulence, Sarah Close is back on her music journey with the official music video for You Say, her latest release.
In this video, Sarah flexes her dancing muscles, bringing extra levels to a song that is a wonderful pop bop. We’re incredibly excited for this new music and are looking forward to adding more music to our Sarah Close Spotify playlist in the future!
Because we can’t stop at just five…
The PS2 era of gaming is steeped in rose-tinted nostalgia for many of us. However, looking back, there were some stinkers. Simi is here with his take on the worst game from that time, the “stinkiest” if you will: Simpsons Skateboarding. Whether or not you agree with this hot take, Simi does a great job of explaining his opinion. As long as we all agree that The Simpsons: Hit & Run is one of the best of the era, then go ahead and agree with Simi!
Have you ever thought, “What is underneath me?” as you walk through any big city? In most places, it’ll be sewage and grossness, but not all of them. Harry Gallagher has found something interesting under Manchester. There is a whole bunch of unexplained noises that are incredibly freaky and disturbing for anyone of a nervous disposition.
Tom Rosenthal has a voice that melts a thousand hearts at the same time. With a peach of a voice, we all know acoustic versions of his music will always be beautiful. This fact has not changed with the release of his latest one, To You Alone. Is there anything Tom can’t do? We’d get him to soundtrack our lives if we could.
David Bruce answers questions from his patrons on the theme of orchestration. With his knowledge and insight, this is a fascinating watch, helping his audience to understand a lot about his field of work and all it entails. An example of a topic is that of Jonny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood, breaking down his style and how he got the unsettling ambience just right.
