It’s been two years and Hamilton is still on repeat. We might be slightly obsessed…
Capitalism is all well and good, but Hamilton tickets are way out of our price range. At least, until we win the lottery. (Which we hope is soon.) The show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, is a genius-level person with a freestyling ability that rivals MCs who trade off their skills on the day to day. He is one of those leading the way in positivity in the online space, with his Twitter presence being a delightful pallet cleanser for all. He’s currently in the UK filming the TV adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, which means his taste for productions is also on point.
Our advice? Be more like Lin-Manuel Miranda.
On with the Round-Up!
KSI, Logan & Jake Paul Interview Mini Series | True Geordie
This is the biggest thing that will happen on YouTube in 2018, so expect there to be a boxing segment in this year’s YouTube Rewind. Olajide ‘KSI’ Olatunji vs. Logan Paul, duking it out in the ring in front of thousands in the Manchester Arena and even more who were watching the stream from the comfort of their own homes, far away from the threat of errant blood splatter and teeth.
One of the people you heard if you were watching the stream was True Geordie, who was commentating on what was happening in the ring, blow by blow. In the lead up to the fight, Geordie managed to sit down with each of the fighters, as well as one of the undercards, Jake Paul. Overall, we’ve been given just over two hours with some of the biggest names in the online space, with them being asked questions most interviewers wouldn’t even think to ask.
While the fight ended in a draw, the audience are the true winners with these videos.
Crushing it at Disneyland w/ Tessa, Hank and Friends | KhanStopMe
You’ll be hardpressed to find a better, catchier song than Tessa Violet‘s Crush, a bop of the highest order. On a recent trip to America, Taha Khan found himself in the company of said singer and thought, the music video for Crush has over 11 million views, but we can do it better. The first one has a supermarket, but Taha managed to get Disneyland and Hank Green involved, so he’s got those connections on point.
It’s a great video that’s just so fun. But, wait, hold up, can we all just take a second to really appreciate Taha’s killer moves? There were multiple times where we asked ourselves, “How did he do that?” Swiftly followed by, “Can he teach us that?”
ARIANA GRANDE – SWEETENER ALBUM MASHUP (COVER) | Talia Mar
Last week saw the release of a pop album that stormed to the top of the charts both here in the UK and over in America. That album was Ariana Grande’s Sweetener.
In celebration of the release, Talia Mar showed off her incredibly effortless voice with a mashup of tracks from the album. The way the piece is arranged is exquisite, layering vocal tracks on top of vocal tracks to give a full performance, flowing wonderfully between songs. As long as breathin’ is a part of any Sweetener conversation, we here at TenEighty HQ will be happy.
We still can’t get over just how good your voice is, Talia!
Your Private Messages Might Travel Under This Beach | Tom Scott
All around the UK, there are places that hold secrets long forgotten by the those who spend their time there. That is especially true of Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall. In this video, Tom Scott tells us all about the most important beach in the British Isles and the significance it has in the growth of communication in the modern world.
This is a fascinating video that explores a facet of a place that some of us here at TenEighty HQ have spent time at, wonderfully unaware of its importance.
10 things you may not have known about The Slow Mo Guys | The Slow Mo Guys 2
The Slow Mo Guys have been a big deal on YouTube for a long time now and they’ve done a lot during that time. There are plenty of things that we, the audience, know about, but there is also plenty we don’t. That’s where this video steps in, filling in the blanks where you might have them.
Gavin Free sits down with the help of a plucky cat to tell us all about who The Slow Mo Guys really are. This video has a lot of unseen footage in it, so it’s a treasure trove of clips from videos that will never see the light of day for a multitude of reasons. Both Gavin and Dan Gruchy get hurt a lot it would seem, drawing blood on at least one occasion.
You know we can’t stop at just five…
Have you heard the good news? Theatre performers Scott Sutcliffe and Jon Dudley have started a YouTube channel. They don’t pull any punches in their first video. They go straight for the top, Galinda herself, Sophie Evans. The youngest person to ever perform the role in London’s production of Wicked does a quick fire round and answers Twitter questions from people with questionable usernames. It’s a hoot of a first video and we look forward to more in the weeks and months to come.
Gemma Dunnell is in a relationship, y’all! Happy times, but that’s not the point of this video. One of the reasons she waited to inform the wider community of the lovelife update is the seemingly inherent biphobia within the world and the LGBTQ+ community itself. As a self-identified bisexual person, biphobia and/or bi-erasure is something that has to be dealt with on a regular basis from all sides. This is a video that shows guts and vulnerability, both things Gemma has shown to have in spades on a multitude of occasions.
September is fast approaching, which can only mean one thing: October is closer than we think. As well, it means the new school year is starting soon. For all new and returning university students, the threat of money (or lack of) is a very real worry. Ibrahim Mohammad is here with a video to show you easy to cook meals on the cheap. This first episode is chickpea curry and we’re hungry just thinking about it.
One more aspect of the new school year is the outfits. Tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt that’ been on the top of the wash basket for days and smells as such just won’t do. Apparently, it’s not 2010 anymore. Instagram has ruined the game for the lazy ones amongst us. Olivia Grace is here with a lookbook for back to school. There’s Air Force Ones that play a big role in the outfits. We’re big fans of the shoes and even bigger fans of the choices.
