Can we rewind the clocks back to last weekend, please?
Summer in the City is over for yet another year. The event, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, is the largest YouTube gathering in the UK and a highlight for many of us within the community. As with previous years, TenEighty was there in full force, covering everything from the stage performances and panels to the meet and greets and so much more! At the end of it all, we were left with huge smiles on our faces and oodles of memories.
To celebrate all things SitC, we thought we’d round-up a few of our favourite videos about the event. Whether you’re in the mood for daily vlogs, comedy videos or even some reminiscing, we have just what you need to maintain your SitC spirits!
Here they are, our Five of the Best: Summer in the City 2018 videos!
Summer in the City 2018 Vlog | Tom Burns
What better way to kick off a Five of the Best about Summer in the City than with a vlog from its creator! We knew Tom Burns would upload an extra special vlog about the event, given its milestone, and that he did.
It’s common knowledge that a lot of work goes on behind-the-scenes to make SitC what it is, but we didn’t really know just how much work it was until we saw this vlog, with all the shots of organisers setting things up. We were getting tired just watching the vlog, so we can only imagine how Tom and everyone else involved were feeling by weekend’s end!
Even though Tom was busy making sure things were running smoothly, he still managed to showcase many of his favourite parts of the weekend, including Jamie Jo‘s gallery show (he’s such a proud husband) and the incredible Kingdom Hearts room! As well, we’re glad to see he was able to partake in the Pokémon GO event that was underway during the weekend. Those shiny Eevee’s are pretty special!
MY SUMMER IN THE CITY 2018 EXPERIENCE | iamtimchung
This year’s Summer in the City was the first time Tim Chung was able to attend as a featured creator, and to say he was excited would be the understatement of the year.
Tim’s vlog is definitely one of our favourites from the weekend. Not only does he give us a tour of the ExCeL and all the exciting things in it, including the super cool ball pit in Louis Cole‘s bus, but it also features a whole host of creators, from Jessica Kellgren-Fozard to Emma Blackery! We have to say, this was one of the best moments of the video. The banter between these two definitely put a smile on our faces.
As well, Tim appeared on the Travel Panel, alongside Louis, Raya Encheva, Evan Edinger and Helen Anderson. It was definitely interesting to hear his takes and perspectives, alongside those of the rest of the panel. However, out of all the things discussed, our favourite part would have to be when Tim said he’d be pushing himself with his videos over the next year. We can’t wait to see what he creates!
Summer in the City 2018 – CRAFT FAIR and SPEEDPAINT // SITC2018 Part 2
One of our favourite things about Summer in the City is the craft fair that’s put on each year. We love getting to look at just how creative those within our community are, from the cute paintings and drawings to the adorable pins and necklaces. However, it can sometimes be an aspect of SitC that’s overlooked in vlogs, which is why we’re glad we have Kathryn Swan to fill us in all those things craft fair-related!
Along with giving us a tour of the craft fair, Kathryn’s vlog also offers viewers an all-around look at SitC, from dodie‘s show stopping headline performance to even a peek at our stand. (Which we hope you all visited at least once.) If you weren’t able to visit the craft fair this year, be sure to add it to your list for next year. It’s truly a highlight of the weekend!
MEETING YOUTUBERS DISGUISED AS A FAN | Sitc 2018 | Joe Tasker
There’s nothing better than viewers getting to meet their favourite YouTubers. But what if said viewer was every YouTuber’s biggest fan? No, we’re not talking about Becca Hodgekins. A new person has stolen her title as Queen of the Fangirls. Everyone, meet Joyce!
Everyone knows some of the most exciting parts of Summer in the City are the various meet and greets held throughout the weekend. There’s something special about getting to meet those you’ve been watching for ages, and being the true fangirl she is, Joyce was able to meet quite a few of her faves, including Jack Dean and Niki and Sammy Albon! (So jelly.) When not stalking hanging with her favourite creators, you could catch Joyce taking in the sights and sounds of SitC, even taking a ride on the carousel, which she totally enjoyed…
Here’s hoping Joyce makes more videos in the future! We love how quirky and hilarious she is. Some might saw we’re her #1 fans.
10 Years Of Summer In The City | Gary C
Closing out this week’s Five of the Best is a special video from Gary C – and, no, it’s not because Peter Kingston makes an appearance. (Although, it has been a hot minute since these two filmed a video together.)
For those unaware, Gary and Peter are true YouTube veterans, having been making videos on the site for years. Since they’ve been on YouTube for so long, they’ve also been some of the few to have attended Summer in the City since the beginning. To celebrate, the pair decided to bring us back to SitCs past, with a video that’s left us feeling pretty reminiscent – where has the time gone?!
As well, Gary brought back an old friend, Cheeky! We have to say, it was relief to find out he hadn’t actually died in that episode of Becoming YouTube. To close out this very special video, he chats with Gary’s niece and nephew, a segment that managed to make us burst into laugh more times than we can count!
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Summer in the City 2018 videos! From the informative panels to the endless meet and greets, we truly believe this year’s SitC was the best one yet! We had a blast, and we can’t wait until next year. A huge thank you to Tom, Liam Dryden, Dave Bullas, Jazza John and Luke Cutforth for continually bringing this community together year after year. We’re forever grateful!
