Our fave baking series took to the stage at Summer in the City for a second time this year. As expected, there were a lot of fairly memorable moments. Here are a few of the best…
Hosted by Daniel J. Layton and Chloe Dungate, Baking With Layton Live took place at the Lifestyle Stage on Sunday and had a very high turnout.
Lemony Eggs
It was bound to happen at some point. Within the first five minutes, Dan was thrown a lemon and the audience devolved into a sing-a-long of the Baking With Layton classic, Lemony Eggs. Being the resourceful pair they are, Dan and Chloe incoporated the lemon into their baking, creating a kind of lemon chocolate chip cookie mass. Unorthodox, but we’re on board.
“A KNIFE!”
After a lack of utensils and cutlery led to Chloe cutting through butter with her bare hands (we were highly impressed), members of the audience started to donate knives and spoons. Dan was more than happy to quote what he referred to as his “favourite video on the internet.”
Sammy Paul
Who else would come up in conversation but our favourite baking assistant? Deemed by Dan as the best and worst guest on Baking With Layton, Sammy’s contributions to the show have been numerous, from his infamous “shimmon” character (which Dan recreated with a Pride flag) to his “KONY 2012” themed cake. A true Baking With Layton staple, even if he does have his Nando’s plain.
Health and Safety
Safety should always come first in the kitchen. When it comes to Baking With Layton Live, however? Not so much. With audience members climbing up to the stage, and a less than edible result, “health and safety!” became the show’s motto.
Janet Jackson
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, we’re sure you know about Dan’s undying love for musician, Janet Jackson. However, one audience member began quite the tirade when they asked, “Who is Janet Jackson?” Following a gasp from the audience, Dan proceeded to tell us Janet’s life story, main achievements, key points in her career, and just why he believes she’s the greatest musician in the world. We were simultaneously impressed and scared for our lives.
Sift or Sieve
To be or not to be? To sift or to sieve? Both age-old questions with no obvious answer in sight. Ever since Benjamin Cook featured on Baking With Layton, and the sift vs sieve argument began, our lives have known no peace. Carrying out a poll during the live show, Dan found that the majority voted for having no strong opinion on the matter. A true unsolved mystery.
Alex the baby
As much as we love Dan and Chloe, the real star of the show was the tiny baby in the audience. Although he was frequently asked for his opinion, Alex didn’t seem to have much to say. Was he silently judging? Probably. Did anyone mind? Definitely not.
