“I’ll admit I’ve not always been consistent on YouTube but I’d say some good advice to anyone starting out is to be consistent with it and share what you feel passionate about and enjoy.”
“I’d already been blogging for a couple of years before I started on YouTube,” recalls Samio Renelda about the start of her time on YouTube. “I decided to film my first video after I kept getting requests to film my hair routine.”
She started creating videos early in 2015, primarily focusing on hair and makeup routines, lookbooks and favourites videos. Following on from this she started to get requests for more videos and fell in love with the filming and editing process.
Alongside her videos, Samio is also a model, but tells us that she was quite late getting into modelling. “It wasn’t until after I graduated from uni that I got signed to my first agency and then I began modelling full time pretty much right away.” With an abundance of beautiful lookbooks filling her channel, she clearly combines her passions for modelling and YouTube perfectly.
Nowadays, it’s quite difficult to get started on YouTube, with the constantly changing algorithm and various other factors. Samio has been on YouTube for just over three years now and in that time she has “learnt that consistency is key.” She goes on to add that “I’d say some good advice to anyone starting out is to be consistent with it and share what you feel passionate about and enjoy.”
When it comes to her favourite videos to make, one key thing is the planning and editing process for lookbooks. “I love spending time editing to the music and getting creative.”
Continuing on from this, she explains: “I love sit-down chatty videos because I love to talk and it’s a great way to connect with your audience.” We at TenEighty love chatty videos and how they provide a real sense of community, making you feel like you’re on a more personal level with the creator.
Creators are always looking to mix things up on their channel from time to time. Variety is key in a lot of ways and can help break things up. Talking about videos she would like to create in the future, Samio says that “I’ve recently thought about doing some cooking videos.”
She’s previously shared bits of cooking on her Instagram Stories and has received a lot of good feedback, which has made her think about trying out some recipe videos.
We asked what video she would send to someone to give them a good look inside into her channel. “I’d probably say my Eyewear Lookbook video which I worked on for a brand. I really enjoyed that collaboration because I got to be really creative with it. I came up with the idea, filmed and edited it all myself.”
Samio’s channel is really on the rise at the moment and we’re really excited to see what the future holds for her content. Talking about her plans for the future, she explains: “I’ve started vlogging more of my daily life and people seem to really like those types of vlogs and I’m actually enjoying it.”
She adds that: “I’d really like to work with brands on creative video projects too. Sometimes I have big ideas but not necessarily the budget.” As a final note, she tells us that “I just want to keep developing my skills, coming up with new ideas and creating content that people will enjoy!”
