I’VE GOT A TEXT!
This week has been coming for a while, its the week that we’ve been anticipating all year. The Sun is out. Our types are on paper. It can only mean that Love Island is back on TV and obviously it’s the best time of the year as what’s not to love about putting your feet up and watching some BAFTA winning love-grafting. Seriously though, how did it win a BAFTA?!
Now on to the Round-Up while we try to figure out who’s our favourite Islander.
Quitting YouTube | Sam Saffold
Sam Saffold has added his thoughts to the growing conversation of life after YouTube, inspired to do so by Dodie. Over the years, there have been plenty of creators that have left YouTube to do other, sometimes bigger, things. Throughout the video, Sam talks about the reasoning behind people doing that. He goes through different points, speaking about each of them from his own experience.
This is the video that shows Sam off as an eloquent, funny, interesting creator who rightly has an engaged audience who look to him for his opinion on topics such as this one.
Headed East | Jack Harries
After a couple of years away from the platform, Jack Harries is back on YouTube with two videos in two weeks. TenEighty spotlighted his first, and it’d be a shame to miss Jack’s second, Headed East.
Directed by Jack and companion Fraser, the pair spent two months on motorbikes driving all the way from London to Budapest and back shooting this film on 16mm. Using this as a way to escape the oppressive nature of city life, both of them went back to nature, cooking their own food, wild camping and so much more.
A stunning video. We are ecstatic that you’re back Jack.
Comics Aren’t Just For Boys | Emma Popcorn
Comics are a huge part of pop culture in 2018 with the biggest films this year being adaptations of them, shout out to Marvel, even if we are still trying to cope after Infinity War.
Also, as the industry grows bigger and bigger, more and more people want to get into it. The problem is that things are mostly geared towards men for some reason. With that in mind, Emma Popcorn takes us through a selection of ‘comics for girls’ in this video.
These comics seem super interesting with some niche ones in amongst more mainstream names so this video is good for all readers to get some new titles to enjoy! Get reading people!
Spinning A Record To Pieces At 12,500 FPS | The Slow Mo Guys
Have you ever put a vinyl on and thought what would happen if you could spin it super fast? Well no need to do it now, Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy of The Slow Mo Guys have done it for you.
This record-breaking video turns one vinyl into about 50,000 pieces of vinyl. As always, the slow motion video is so incredibly satisfying. All of the parts of the video that the interplay between Gavin and Dan are what we keep coming back to their videos for.
Sidemen FC vs YouTube Allstars 2018 (Goals & Highlights) | Sidemen
This last weekend was this year’s version of the Sidemen charity football match. As always, it is filled to the rafters with so many of your favourite creators such as Stephen Tries, Simon Minter and King Bach.
This video is all the highlights from the game, showing some cracking goals all set to the dulcet tones of the commentators, Laurence McKenna and The True Geordie.
Each year, they have raised a lot of money and this year is no different. Congrats to everyone involved!
