Mental Health Awareness Week is coming up and Robin Skinner (also known as Cavetown) has come through with a gorgeous song.
He’s just begun a UK tour, but Robin Skinner has still managed to find time to upload Talk To Me, his latest original song. With Mental Health Awareness Week coming up (from 14 to 20 May), the song features lyrics urging listeners to talk to someone if it all gets a bit too much – definitely the kind of message we can get behind here at TenEighty.
Beginning the song with lyrics like “You don’t have to be a hero to save the world” and “It doesn’t make you a narcissist to love yourself”, Robin manages to tell us to practise self-love and kindness in the most soothing (and catchy) way possible. With exam season creeping up on us, this advice has definitely come at the right time.
The video cuts between split-screens of animated doodles and Robin playing his instruments, which only add to its calming effect. We absolutely love his music videos, for songs like Lemon Boy and Pigeon, but he seems most at home with a guitar, simply singing to a camera. We’d definitely recommend watching this one in the evening with a cup of tea in hand.
Although he makes it seem effortless, he reveals it took a fair few takes to get right. “I’m just so picky with my music,” he says. “I’ll slip up on a string one time and I’m like, ‘I need to start again. I need to burn this guitar and buy a new one and start again.’” We mean, we understand the self-criticism thing, but we definitely wouldn’t recommend that!
We cannot wait to see more from Robin and wish him the best for his tour!
