Get ready, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to enter into the war to end all wars: the Infinity War.
Ten years in the making, Avengers: Infinity War sees many of our favourite Marvel superheroes coming together to fight against the mega-villian Thanos, who comes to Earth in search of the Infinity Stones, which will allow him to bend reality and give him ultimate power. Only our faves can put a stop to this, which is why they’re coming together for a two-movie event, the first of which has just hit the big screen!
Over the past ten years, we’ve been introduced to many an Avenger, who have not only stolen our hearts and made us feel a whole host of emotions, but have also made us desperately wish we were as strong as them. From Iron Man and Thor to Black Panther and Star-Lord, we’ve become pretty attached through watching the onscreen action. And you know who else has become captivated by these heroes? Our fave YouTubers. In fact, they love Marvel so much that we decided it’d be a good idea to recast the MCU with a few of them.
Move over, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth – we have some new superheroes to fill your shoes.
Black Panther – Eman Kellam
T’Challa, the King of Wakanda, the Black Panther. Who could possibly play him other than Chadwick Boseman? Eman Kellam, that’s who, and not just because he has dreams of becoming an actor.
One of the more popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther has both stolen the hearts of moviegoers and shown everyone how to kick some ass without going against one’s ethics and morals. Eman Kellam is also known for approaching YouTube in this way. He’s managed to grow a sizeable following because of his honesty and good nature, and just like T’Challa he isn’t afraid to let his witty and sarcastic side shine through.
What’s more, he’s always up for fighting for what he believes in, including equal representation in the media and on YouTube. With such a strong moral compass and a big heart, Eman is destined for just as much greatness as T’Challa, which is why he’s the only one we’d want to see taking on the role.
Iron Man – Jack Howard
Yes, yes, we know. Anyone else would have cast Jack Howard as Spider-Man, but, trust us, we have our reasons for picking him to play the snarky and sarcastic Tony Stark.
Just as Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, was the first Avenger we were introduced to, so too was Jack Howard one of the first YouTubers we discovered. Through the comedy channel he shares with Dean Dobbs, he’s become one of the main faces of UK YouTube, just as Stark became the poster boy of the Avengers through his superhero antics and flashy events. But despite how he appears in public, Stark has a heart of gold and isn’t afraid to take risks and be a mentor – just like Jack. Though he might not have physically mentored any creators, his videos and the way he handles himself have helped to inspire many to try their hand at sketch comedy.
See, we told you he’s the perfect fit to play Iron Man.
Thor – John Chapman
You can’t have just anyone playing the Norse God, Thor. Not only do they have to be built like a god, but they also have to be able to think up witty comebacks on the fly and have the strength to wield Thor’s famous hammer. That’s why we’d have none other than John Chapman take on the role. Not only does he have the spot-on sense of humour, as documented on his YouTube channel with collaborator Leon Bustin, but we feel he’s one of the few creators who could successfully win a fight against the Hulk while also a prisoner of the Grandmaster.
All he has to do is grow his hair out and find a red cape. We’re sure that won’t be too difficult.
Loki – Benjamin Cook
We know whoever plays Loki has to be sarcastic, witty, and a bit self-deprecating. Thankfully, YouTube has someone just like that: Benjamin Cook. Not only does he have GREAT comedic timing, he’s also known to share many of the characteristics that have made Loki everyone’s favourite antihero.
Just as Loki was an outsider of Asgard before being adopted by Odin as a baby, so too was Ben an outsider of YouTube, being accepted into the community upon the release of his insightful Becoming YouTube documentary series. Also, Loki is known as the God of Mischief, and we feel an argument can be made for Ben being the mischief-maker of YouTube. He’s always up for joking around with friends and getting up to no good, and we love seeing the antics he gets up to on Twitter.
Given his attitude, we think he could totally pull the character off.
Star-Lord – Luke Cutforth
Only someone with a good sense of humour, an appreciation for music, and a unique lightheartedness to them could play Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, and that’s why we feel there’s no better YouTuber than Luke Cutforth.
While he might not be an outlaw like Quill, Luke does share a lot of similarities with the intergalactic superhero. Not only does he have great comedic timing, but he’s always down to help his friends and will always do what’s right in the end. Also, he also has a great group of allies around him, in the form of his housemates, including Evan Edinger. With his upbeat personality and friends by his side, we feel Luke would be able to save outer space with as much ease as the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gamora – Teeyana Aromi
You need a badass playing Gamora, which is why we’re saying Teeyana Aromi would be the perfect pick.
While she might be more upbeat and bubbly than the serious and down-to-business Gamora, Teeyana is just as confident as this intergalactic fighter. True fans of Guardians of the Galaxy will know that, while Gamora might appear to be ruthless and merciless, she is actually quite caring and loving to those she’s close to, which is exactly how Teeyana is! Also, we know she has the ability to rock any style, so give the girl some pink hair and let’s see her rock Gamora’s fierce look!
Spider-Man – Tim Hautekiet
It’s no secret Tim Hautekiet is a massive fan of Spider-Man, but that isn’t the only reason why we feel he’d be the perfect web-making superhero.
Let’s start with the obvious. In the recent reincarnation of the Spider-Man series, Peter Parker is a vlogger, which is a role Tim could fall into with ease, given his time on YouTube. As well as looking good in the suit, he has experience in front of and behind the camera, which means he’d ensure only the best shots would make the final cut. He’s also known for frequently collaborating with friends, as seen in his KNOW WHAT I MEAN? and What Have We Done? sketches, so you know he’d fall right into place fighting alongside the Avengers.
What’s more, he’s also good friends with (and a former housemate of) our own Tony Stark, Jack Howard, which means the two could play the friendly mentor/mentee dynamic with ease.
Captain America – Sam Saffold-Geri
Sam Saffold-Geri is the one who immediately comes to mind when we think of Captain America. While we don’t think he’s ever been frozen in the Arctic (at least, he hasn’t told us anything), he shares quite a few traits with Steve Rogers.
Captain America is a courageous man who is all about fighting for what’s right and keeping the peace. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s what gives him his sense of purpose and leads him to join the Avengers. While Sam might not be one to pick fighting as his first option, he is courageous, always willing to try new techniques and styles in his filmmaking, and he’s always looking to better himself and the world. He’s honest and moral, just like Rogers, and it’s this attitude that’s resulted in him being one of the many respected up-and-coming creators on YouTube.
Jessica Jones – Emma Blackery
We know we said this article was going to be about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the TV shows count as part of that, right? We couldn’t not include a few of our Netflix faves! One of those is Jessica Jones, and who better to play her than Emma Blackery, YouTube’s own “give no f**ks” creator?
While their paths are in no way similar, we feel Emma could easily play the character simply based on her ability to be versatile. And just like Jessica, she isn’t afraid to share her opinions, and is incredibly sarcastic. She’s also a good person who always tries to do what’s best, and while Jessica might have turned to alcohol to deal with the negativity in her life, Emma turned to music, which has resulted in the monster bop that is Dirt.
Hulk – TomSka
Thomas Ridgewell is the only YouTuber we could see playing the Hulk, as well as scientist Bruce Banner.
Just as Banner is well respected within the scientific community, so too is Tom on YouTube. He’s a veteran who’s created such memorable content as the asdfmovie series and Baby With A Gun. Banner is known to experiment, especially when it comes to bringing the Hulk under control, and you could say Tom’s no stranger to experimentation as well, as he’s currently testing out new video styles on his side channel… We’re not saying they’ll result in him becoming an angry green monster, but you never know.
Also, Tom’s got an excellent sense of humour, which we know he’d bring to the role.
Shuri – Scola Dondo
Scola Dondo as Black Panther‘s Shuri? Yes, please! The sister of the famous T’Challa, she’s definitely one of the coolest characters in the movie, so we need a YouTuber equally as cool to play her.
Just as Shuri is constantly improving her inventions, Scola is always looking looking to improve herself, both physically and mentally through exercise and self-care. She’s also known to tease her family, just like Shuri, as seen in the pregnancy prank she pulled on her father. This shows she has a great sense of humour, which is essential when playing Shuri. However, she’s also able to get serious and tackle issues that are important to her, which means she definitely won’t shy away from the frontline when a battle is about to occur.
Dr Strange – Bertie Gilbert
Before an accident resulted in the inability to properly use his hands, Dr Stephen Vincent Strange was a renowned neurosurgeon. While he might not be a surgeon, Bertie Gilbert is renowned in the YouTube sphere for his awesome short films that often push boundaries and cover an array of topics.
While Dr Strange might appear to be arrogant, he is known to have a heart (albeit deep down), and while Bertie is much more open with his caring nature, we’ve seen him play an array of characters that show he could adopt Dr Strange’s cold nature with ease. Also, he is one of the most determined YouTubers out there and is filled with good intentions, traits he shares with this unlikely superhero.
We also can’t ignore the fact Bertie played a young Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, so he’s no stranger to playing characters with magic powers.
Black Widow – Hazel Hayes
Apart from practically being Scarlett Johansson’s twin, we have many reasons why we feel Hazel Hayes would be the perfect person to play Black Widow.
Let’s start with the basics: Hazel is a total badass who doesn’t take s**t from anyone. She can handle herself and will kick ass and take names when needed. You know who else does this? Black Widow. Through her training, she’s able to take down enemies with ease, and while Hazel might not have any professional fight training, we feel she’d be able to take up the moves with practice. (It’s the Irish determination in her.) She’s also sarcastic and smart, which are traits anyone playing Black Widow needs to possess.
However, Black Widow isn’t all business. As her character has developed throughout the Avengers movies, we’ve seen how big a big heart she has, which results in her opening up to those she’s close to and having a grand sense of loyalty. As seen throughout her Twitter, Hazel too shares these sentiments and will always do whatever is needed to ensure her friends are feeling secure.
Luke Cage – KSI
You need a fighter to play the strong Luke Cage, so of course we’d have KSI take on the role. Given his boxing win against Joe Weller and his upcoming fight with Logan Paul, we think KSI’s more than proved he’s got what it takes to play the character.
While he might not be as aloof or lonesome as Cage, KSI has shown time and time again that he’s a loyal friend (as seen in his videos with the Sidemen) and that he can hold his own and bounce back against anything thrown his way. Also, he shares Cage’s confidence and humour, as well as a fondness for sports. It’s as if KSI was born to play him!
Hawkeye – Charlie McDonnell
Dedicated to his craft and with a solid base around him, Charlie McDonnell is our dream Hawkeye.
While Charlie might be more adept with a camera than with Clint Barton’s signature bow and arrow, his ability to master the art of filmmaking shows he has the determination needed to adopt Barton’s weapon. Also, he’s not quick to jump into things, taking the time to assess the situation and make a move based on what he discovers, and he holds a strong loyalty to his friends. What else would you need from someone playing this superhero?
Ready to suit up?
We’re not going to lie, there were multiple times throughout the writing of this article where we had to stop and watch a film or two. Ask us to recite lines from either Thor: Ragnarok or the latest Spider-Man film and we can do so with ease. (Not to brag or anything.) And Infinity War? You can bet we were in line for one of the many midnight screenings, and we may or may not have already seen it three times…
