When transported into the world of Jumanji, five YouTubers must work their way through a series of quests in order to escape.
In collaboration with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Joe Tasker, Parris Gachette, Amber Doig-Thorne, Eman Kellam, and Adam Waithe have filmed the ultimate jungle adventure: being tasked with surviving the world of Jumanji. In order to escape, each must earn a total of four points through the game’s five levels, with each level testing everything from movie knowledge to smouldering abilities… Oh, and each creator’s ability keep calm while within a few centimetres of a snake.
Before launching into the levels, we were introduced to each creator via their player pages, where we learnt that Adam is scared of dogs and Amber is pretty kick-ass at rap battles. The first level saw them traversing through the treetops in an obstacle course that would make anyone with a fear of heights think twice. While going through the course, they faced Jumanji trivia, which included naming Dr Bravestone’s weakness and stating the song that plays whenever Ruby Roundhouse’s dance fighting ability is activated. Once all were answered, each was allowed to zip line out of the trees to safety.
The second level saw things moving up a notch, with the creators facing off against each other in a cupcake-eating contest, which ended up being a pretty close match and one that left Joe in awe of his fellow YouTubers’ abilities. “What is wrong with you? No, that’s not possible,” he said with a mouthful of chocolate.
From there, each was allowed to progress to the third level, which tested their smouldering abilities – but there was a catch. They had to do so whilst on a fast-moving rollercoaster, and whoever lost focus would lose the challenge and thus the point… Unless you were Parris, whose fear of roller coasters kept him from participating in the challenge altogether.
The fourth level saw them come face-to-face with a live snake, with the challenge being that they had to keep it around their necks for 30 seconds. Some, like Eman, appeared to be seasoned pros, staying as cool as cucumbers. Others weren’t so great at hiding their anxiety over the situation. To close things out, the creators were set on an adventure, following clues that would lead them to the green jewel, thus giving the winner three additional points and, if they were lucky, bring all players back to the real world.
We won’t spoil who won, or tell you if all managed to escape, but we will say it was definitely a nail-biting experience. So unless you want to go on a similar adventure, we suggest avoiding any games with the word “Jumanji” in the title…
