Prepare to feel some sweet childhood nostalgia…
There are so many characters that were staples of our childhoods and shaped who we are today, from the sassmaster that was Salem the cat to the psychic Raven Baxter. With a lot of films and TV shows being rebooted in recent years, we got to wondering: who would we cast in these roles if given the chance?
Well, you’re in luck because you’re about to find out…
Daniel J. Layton – Troy Bolton (High School Musical)
He can sing, he can dance, he can act, AND he has excellent hair – if anyone was going to replace the ultimate bae Zac Efron as East High’s star basketball player Troy Bolton, it was always going to be Daniel J. Layton! A leading man in the waiting, we’re sure Dan would be able to rally the Wildcats together with his rendition of Breaking Free.
We’re mighty sure he wouldn’t be a bad basketball player, either.
Emma Blackery – Tracy Beaker (The Story of Tracy Beaker)
Who else would we cast as everyone’s favourite teenager? Never one to keep her feelings bottled up (just ask Google+), Emma Blackery has the fearless spirit that made Tracy the feisty queen of the Dumping Ground. We aspired to be as strong as Tracy then, and we aspire to be as strong as Emma now!
Hey, CBBC, what do we have to do for you to reboot the Tracy Beaker series?
Benjamin Cook – Salem (Sabrina the Teenage Witch)
When he’s not failing to release Becoming YouTube 2 (we won’t stop complaining until the series appears in our sub box), Benjamin Cook is always armed with a sarcastic quip, so who would be better to voice the talking cat we all wanted? Also, we can’t prove Ben isn’t hell-bent on world domination, like Salem… So really, the choice is pretty obvious.
With Netflix bringing back Sabrina, we’re not sure why they haven’t cast Ben as Salem!
Hazel Hayes – Aunt Hilda (Sabrina the Teenage Witch)
Sticking with Sabrina, there was only one woman to cast as fashion icon and aunt goals, Aunt Hilda! Yep, the one and only Hazel Hayes may as well have been born for this role. Hilariously relatable, bubbly yet feisty, there’s not much that can separate these two.
We can just imagine Aunt Hilda hosting her own magical universe version of Tipsy Talk! And we know Hazel would rock the leopard print.
Hannah Witton – Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
Despite being a proud Hufflepuff, we think Hannah Witton shares some of Hermione’s iconic traits: intelligence, loyalty, determination, responsibility, consideration, eloquence, and fearlessness. Like Hermione, Hannah is definitely someone we’d want in our corner!
And before you say anything, of course we’d tell Hannah to wear her true Hufflepuff crest under the Gryffindor one! You can’t take a Hufflepuff away from their house – they’re known for their loyalty, after all.
Patricia Bright – Raven Baxter (That’s So Raven)
Sassy, funny, kind, and fashion-forward are traits that we can be applied to both Raven Baxter and Patricia Bright, so there’s no doubt this would be the perfect casting choice. Looking back, we’re not entirely sure Raven was that stylish, but we swear her clothing choices were on trend at the time. Meanwhile, Patricia’s style is chic and timeless, and we know we trust her to predict upcoming trends… Can’t go much worse than Raven’s visions often did, can it?
Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs – Drake Parker and Josh Nichols (Drake and Josh)
These two partnerships don’t just share initials; one’s taller, one’s got the floppy fringe, but both are hilariously talented and were the ultimate brothers-but-not-really-brothers on the telly! Just as Drake and Josh’s friendship (and brotherhood) stood the test of time, from Josh’s obsession with Oprah to Drake’s constant scheming, Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs too have been longtime friends, so there’s no doubt the pair are the British version of Nickelodeon’s fave duo.
Also, who wouldn’t want to hear Jack perform the show’s iconic theme song?
Carrie Hope Fletcher – Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana (Hannah Montana)
Carrie Hope Fletcher is a woman of many talents, and managing to juggle two different career paths is a skill we’re quite envious of! Funny, loyal to her family and friends, and supremely talented, Carrie is a real-life Hannah Montana and is definitely living… the best of both worlds. (We’re so punny sometimes.)
We feel Carrie is long overdue a movie of her own and reckon she could totally own The Climb!
Niki and Sammy Albon – Zack and Cody Martin (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody)
The mischievous grin that was never far from the Sprouse twins (and still isn’t!) is right at home with Niki and Sammy Albon. With charm by the bucket, we can just imagine the hijinks Niki and Sammy could get up to at the Tipton Hotel, and we don’t know about you, but we’d like to see that TV series!
Now, the real question is, who would play the iconic Mr Moseby?
Evan Edinger – Arnold Shortman (Hey Arnold)
Height and head shape aside, we’d argue there’s not much that can separate our favourite pun master Evan Edinger and Arnold Shortman. The guy who just does good, Evan symbolises everything we adore about Arnold, from his fashion sense to his friendships and attitude towards life.
To be honest, we’re not entirely convinced Evan ISN’T an adult Arnold!
So there you have it…
The YouTubers who we think should play our fave childhood television characters in any future reboots. We’re not saying we can bring these shows back, but if there’s anyone reading who can make this dream casting happen, we’d all love it!
