And the Oscar goes to…
We love watching YouTube videos (duh!), but we also love films. If you’re in the mood for something short and sweet, then check out our Five of the Best: Short Films for some real gems. Often, however, our favourite YouTubers recommend their favourite feature-length films, and their recommendations usually hit the spot!
If you want to catch up on old classics or cheesy rom-coms after all the Oscar hype, we’ve got just the list for you. Grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and join us for Five of the Best: Film Recommendations!
6 Films for Finding Yourself! | SuperSamStuff
We love that Sam Saffold-Geri‘s videos are always the perfect mix of beautiful and interesting. His film recommendation series is amazing, and we thought its latest instalment was super inspiring. In 6 Films for Finding Yourself, Sam features such films as the delightful and dreamy Punch-Drunk Love, recommending watching after a day of doing lots of work and feeling like not much is done. He also recommends the quirky Frank, which deals with mental health issues amongst other things – one of our faves!
If these recommendations don’t fit your current mood, how about trying 6 Films for Stressful Times or 6 Films for Surviving Exam Season? Sam truly has a film recommendation for every difficult time.
Female empowerment films with Lucy Moon | Rebecca Munroe
Rebeca Munroe is one of our fave open and honest YouTubers. In this collab with Lucy Moon, these two wonderful ladies talk about their favourite films for female empowerment. They each pick three films that empower or have inspired them in their life. For Rebecca, a standout was the hit Disney classic Mulan, while Lucy highlights another totally amazing female badass: Kat in 10 Things I Hate About You.
An honourable mention to The Devil Wears Prada, definitely one of our fave films ever. Now all we want is to have a sleepover, order a pile of pizza, and watch these classics!
My Favourite Films! (aka- films u should watch!!) | thefionaadventures
Fiona Burton‘s usual passion is infectious in this video, where she talks about her favourite films. Her number one choice is Stoker, which from her description alone is going on our to-watch list – looks like such a brilliant mystery/thriller! Another fantastic suggestion is Wes Anderson’s Rushmore, with the wonderful lesson of “find what you love, and do it”.
Alongside her other suggestions, Fiona’s choices have got us set for a very cosy weekend. Thanks!
My Top 10 Films of 2017 | What I’m Doing Now
Sammy Paul not only makes fantastic short films, but it turns out he’s also pretty good at picking longer ones. In this video, Sammy talks about his favourite films of 2017. He kindly whittled down his original list of 52 to just ten. (Plus eight honourable mentions – goodness, Sammy!) Get Out, Raw, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Shape of Water – he just doesn’t stop naming fantastic films. If you’re really in the mood to get inspired by all the wonderful art and emotion, Sammy’s video is definitely the place to start.
If you’re somehow still left wanting more, check out the video he made last year.
MY TOP TEN MOVIES…EVER!! | Mark Ferris
Mark Ferris‘s bubbly selection of favourite movies is just the thing to perk you up. From Bridesmaids through Mean Girls all the way to Go With It, Mark’s list hits all the rom-coms we love – but also includes recommendations such as Cruel Intentions and Scream.
Please do more movie recommendations, Mark!
