Carrie was nominated alongside four other actresses, including Josie Walker from Everybody’s Talking about Jamie.
In an interview at the ceremony, Carrie said that “putting my novels on stage is the dream”.
She continued: “To see something that has come out of your brain materialised and in front of you… I want to know what that feels like; I’d love to know what that feels like”.
Previously, Carrie won the 2014 award for Best Takeover in a Role for playing Éponine in Les Misérables, and was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In November, she will reprise the role of Beth in The War of the Worlds for its fortieth anniversary tour.
