Previously, Carrie has also won the award for Best Takeover in a Role in 2014 for her role of Eponine in Les Miserables, and was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her role of Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Carrie won against four other actresses – including Josie Walker from Everybody’s Talking about Jamie.
In a recent interview at the awards, Carrie declared that “putting my novels on stage is the dream”.
She continued to explain that “to see something that has come out of your brain materialised, and in front of you. I want to know what that feels like; I’d love to know what that feels like”.
In November, Carrie will return to her previous role of Beth in The War of the Worlds for their 40th anniversary tour.
