The Oscars have come and gone for another year.
Do you have any Oscars traditions? We do! Each year, we here at TenEighty HQ change into our PJs, grab our comfiest blankets, put out some delicious popcorn and wine, and stay up into the wee hours of the morning watching the awards show. (Gotta love time differences, eh?) It’s something we’ve done since the magazine started, and we love the anticipation as we wait for the winners to be announced.
You know you else watches the Oscars? Our fave YouTubers, and many of them took to Twitter to share their thoughts on this year’s show, from the winners and fashion, to commentary on some of the best moments.
Blasphemy!
So my plan was to watch the #oscars but I got 30 mins into the red carpet & I don’t recall anything after that… #sleepy #typicalme 😂

We have one thing to say about this, Lucy Edwards: blasphemy!
(But we’d be lying if we said we hadn’t been guilty of this in the past…)
Ahh, the memories

Leave it to Daniel J. Layton to bring back one of our favourite Oscars memories.

Never watched an Oscars show before? Fear not, because Ellen Rose has pretty much summed it up for us.
Fashion? Yes, please!
Catching up on Oscars news during the night feed… Jennifer Lawrence’s dress (and hair and makeup!) ?!?!??!?? – just WOW! So stunning! 🤩
— Fleur (@FleurDeForce) March 5, 2018
Many of our faves, including Fleur DeForce, were quick to comment on the amazing fashion choices those in attendance had opted for. From the sleek suits to the dazzling dresses, we were in awe the entire night!
Coco < everything
Best Original Song goes to Remember Me from @pixarcoco. I’m not crying you are #PixarCoco #oscars pic.twitter.com/AuDDv0YQBN
— Gary C (@oohgaryc) March 5, 2018
We’re sure Gary C wasn’t the only one to get teary-eyed over Coco‘s Best Original Song win… Can someone grab us a tissue?
Who else does this?
Does anyone else browse through the Oscars red carpet dresses and spend time seriously deliberating which one you would have worn if you were there but then remember that you are a) largely talentless and b) would look like a haggis in all of them because same
— Lucy (@LucyJaneWood) March 5, 2018
We totally do this as well, Lucy Wood. However, we highly doubt you’d look like a haggis in all of them. Us, on the other hand…
YAAAAAAS
I’ll say it, Matthew Mcconaughey is a man best served aged. #oscars
— Mary Akemon (@MaryAkemon) March 5, 2018
Preach, Mary Akemon. Preach!
Following in Dil’s footsteps

— Daniel Howell (@danielhowell) March 5, 2018
Following in the footsteps of his Sim, Dil, Daniel Howell showed us his mixology skills on Oscars night. He also gave us some obscure movie trivia that we’ll definitely be sharing at our next dinner party.
Lin Manuel Miranda… and a sandwich?
Lin Manuel carrying a giant sandwich is literally all I want from life #Oscars
— Chloe Dungate (@ScarfDemon) March 5, 2018
Watching Lin Manuel Miranda carrying a giant sandwich is everything we ever dreamed of, Chloe Dungate. That man truly is a treasure to us all.
Group hug!
SOMEONE HUG GUILLERMO HE'S GREAT #Oscars
— Seán Connolly (@TheSonicScrew) March 5, 2018
We’d like to volunteer for this, Seán Connolly.
Staying up late requires sacrifice
Stayed up till 5.30am at our Oscar party. Am now waiting to interview Alicia Vikander. Got on the wrong train this morning. Have just realised I put on navy tights, not black. Am consuming copious amounts of tea and pastries before drinking with her in case I actually pass out.
— Hazel Hayes (@TheHazelHayes) March 5, 2018
Many of us stayed up until the early hours of the morning watching the Oscars, including Hazel Hayes. We know your morning might not have gone as planned, Hazel, but we hope you enjoyed your Oscars party!
Boss Baby who?
Solid results all round for the #Oscars – apart from everyone STILL shitting on The Boss Baby which will never be forgiven.
— Matt Ley (@Thelaserbearguy) March 5, 2018
We’ve never had the dismay pleasure of seeing The Boss Baby, Matt Ley, and what a shame that is… Truly a shame.
An overall successful and satisfying night
A solid Oscars! No real surprises, just a long list of very deserving winners. Particularly happy for Shape of Water and Get Out.
— Sammy Paul (@ICOEPR) March 5, 2018
In a few years people will watch the speeches from tonight out of context and feel excited, motivated and inspired…
But also they’ll think, “why does everyone keep talking about a jet ski?”#Oscars
— Jack Howard (@JackHoward) March 5, 2018
Oh my god last night was just so exciting and inspiring to read about in my pyjamas in bed this morning. Just so so happy for everyone who won, so many beautiful films nominated this year and incredible performances! #Oscars pic.twitter.com/52PpLggwMo
— Tanya Burr (@TanyaBurr) March 5, 2018
Like Sammy Paul, Jack Howard, and Tanya Burr, we were extremely happy about the night’s winners. Our personal faves? Allison Janney’s award for Best Supporting Actress and Jordan Peele’s award for Best Original Screenplay.
Also, why does everyone keep talking about a jet ski?
So there you have it…
How our faves reacted to the 2018 Academy Awards. We have to say, it was a wonderful night spent celebrating wonderful films, and we can’t wait to see what the upcoming year of films has to offer.
