“I feel very fortunate to have found people who take an interest in what I have to say. Some of them live in the same city as me, and others in parts of the world that I’ve never heard of. Now if that’s not cool, I don’t know what is.”
Many YouTube creators start their journey on the platform as a way to navigate through life and make sense of the world we live in. That’s one of the reasons the bubbly, delightful, and charismatic Venetia Falconer first started her channel.
“I think I’ve spent the majority of my twenties learning, changing, growing, and developing, and I wanted to start documenting that,” she says. “YouTube is something that has played a huge part in helping me figure out who I am, so it felt like the right platform to start a visual diary.
“I don’t have much of this bizarre thing called ‘life’ figured out, but I find the process of trying to do so pretty exhilarating. What’s more, I think the internet is fascinating and terrifying in equal measure, and I wanted to be a part of trying to make sense of it all,” she adds.
Through this online diary, Venetia has been able to help other twenty-somethings figure themselves out (ourselves included!). In her vlog series which she entitles Ven Vlogs, she shares how she finds her way through a busy London life.
Amidst the favourites videos and daily vlogs, she has also opened up about her experiences with anxiety. In her video How To Cope When You’re Anxious AF, she shares her journey, along with practical ways to help other sufferers navigate their way through it.
Describing how it felt to make such personal videos, she says: “Initially very scary, but then hugely rewarding. It helped me realise that I wasn’t alone and it’s a topic of conversation that needs to be spoken about more. It meant that I became more open in my everyday life and, as someone who is prone to ‘bottling up’ their feelings (not ideal for an anxiety sufferer), it helped me deal with the anxiety itself.” She also reveals that she has recently started working with the mental health charity Sane.
If a vegan lifestyle is your thing, look no further. Venetia shares everything from vegan recipes and snacks to the best places to grab vegan pizza. She also opens up about her vegan story, sharing the reasons behind making the change and how she did it.
“I love plant-based cooking. Eating this kind of food makes me feel wonderful,” she says. “I just want to open people’s eyes to conscious decision-making, just like all the people who did the same for me. I’m just part of that chain! And I really love cows. A lot.”
Authenticity is something many YouTubers tend to strive for, and Venetia is testament to that. She mentions Jenn Im as an inspiration for this very reason: “I absolutely worship her. I’ve watched her since her channel first started and I love how she’s made a business out of her passion, whilst staying true to herself at the same time.”
She also menions Cam and Nina as among her inspirations (“their videos are utter magic”), as well as Carly Rowena, who has “recently started a series all about sex which is fresh and important in equal measure. She’s the big sister we all need and I’m hugely excited about this new avenue for her.”
Venetia is clearly grateful for her online audience. When asked about the future of her channel, she shares that she doesn’t have expectations of becoming a big YouTuber. “[YouTube is] a platform where I’m able to talk about my passions with a lovely, kind and intelligent audience,” she says. “I’d like to think that the channel will continue to grow, but even if it doesn’t I feel very fortunate to have found people who take an interest in what I have to say. Some of them live in the same city as me, and others in parts of the world that I’ve never heard of. Now if that’s not cool, I don’t know what is.”
A wonderful and mindful soul (not that we are biased), Venetia’s videos will leave you feeling happy and inspired to be the best version of you.
