YouTuber Chrissy Chambers has won damages against a man who uploaded “revenge porn” videos of her online.
Chambers sued her former boyfriend, who she dated for nine months, for breach of confidence, harassment, and misuse of private information.
Years after they broke up, the former partner uploaded inappropriate videos of the couple online, which were then shared on more than 35 different sites.
It has been illegal in England since April 2015 to post private sexual content online without consent, but in Chambers’s case, the videos were uploaded online in 2011 and therefore could not be subject to Crown prosecution, so were instead taken through a civil case.
After winning her case at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, Chambers is set to receive substantial undisclosed damages and her legal costs from her ex, who for legal reasons has only been referred to as DCR.
In celebration, Chrissy proposed to her partner Bria Kam, with whom she shares the BriaAndChrissy channel. Kam has described Chambers as “the bravest, most incredible human being that I’ve ever met”.
