A creative take on the classic daily vlog, Lucy Moon’s 168 Hours paints a picture of a week in her life.
The semi-regular series has focused on everything from action-packed YouTube conventions to typical slice-of-life weeks with family and friends. Warning: watching 168 Hours may make you crave Instagram-worthy food, reflect on the work you’re doing, and see the beauty in ordinary moments.
With that out of the way, let’s dive into our ten favourite 168 Hours moments!
Her behind-the-scenes look at Drunk Advice
168 Hours started back in 2015, when Lucy picked an average week of her life to explore weekly vlogging. It just so happened to be the week that she, Savannah Brown, and dodie were guests on Hannah Witton’s Drunk Advice series. Well, actually, Savannah was a guest – Lucy and dodie managed to briefly invite themselves on. Alcohol-infused hilarity ensues in this behind-the-scenes video, including dodie’s zoomed-in declaration that “you’re great, make art”.
An honest conversation and an art piece
There are a few standard features of 168 Hours: brilliant editing, fun behind-the-scenes looks at Lucy’s life, and honest conversations about personal topics. Life is Peachy sets the stage for this pattern with everything from an otherworldly shot of a sparkler to a frank conversation about mental health and birth control.
When she received her Silver Play Button
While Lucy can take an ordinary week and turn it into an aesthetic dream, she often chooses particular events or trips to centre her vlogs around. In 2016, she documented her trip to Summer in the City, including the moment she received her Silver Play Button onstage!
When she showed us her multifaceted life
A weekly vlog allows us to see aspects of someone’s life that may not often make it into their videos – for instance, a passion for politics. Lucy notes in this video the stark contrast between her participating in political protest and attending Louise Pentland’s Louise Live in the same day, but it’s this complexity that makes 168 Hours so interesting.
Her family’s Butterbeer taste test
There are tons of great moments in this Florida vacation vlog, but the best has to be a family-wide taste test of Harry Potter‘s Butterbeer. (Which we still have yet to try…) The general consensus seems to be that it tastes like ice cream soda – but, based on her face, it doesn’t look like Lucy’s mum enjoys ice cream soda very much!
A big life milestone
168 Hours returned after a hiatus with a home-focused vlog, featuring Lucy preparing to graduate and move out from her student flat! Even though we missed the series during the break, it was worth it to see that Lucy’s hard work during university paid off!
When she visited Paris
Lucy herself has chosen this as one of her favourite videos, and we have to agree. It’s hard to pick a favourite part. From the honest reflections on self and relationships to tightly edited montages of Paris streets, it’s everything we’ve come to know and love from Lucy.
When 168 Hours got taken over
While Lucy’s heart is what makes 168 Hours so brilliant, it is fun to see what happens when other people take the reins. Lucy’s camera got passed around by Buffer Festival guests, as they joked around and lip-synced, ending with Michael Aranda and Sabrina Cruz trying to find her and return it before she went to sleep.
A tough conversation about vulnerability
In this “experimental” black-and-white edition of 168 Hours, Lucy reflects on her widely shared video about her relationship with alcohol. She struggles with the regrets she has from being so vulnerable, but also recognises that the video helped others. This balancing act is difficult for everyone with some part of their lives in the public eye, even just an Instagram account followed by friends, and we appreciate her addressing it with nuance and grace.
So there you have it…
Our ten favourite 168 Hours moments! Lucy keeps coming up with new ways to keep this format fresh and we hope it continues on for many more years. With her love of experimentation, we never know what might come next!
