While some of our favourite creators were partaking in Vlogmas and Vidmas, Dan and Phil were treating us to a different type of holiday tradition: Gamingmas.
For yet another December, Dan Howell and Phil Lester partook in Gamingmas, their annual tradition of uploading a video a day to their gaming channel. This year, we were treated to a whole host of games, from the Sims 4 to a classic game of charades. It was a pretty exciting month, filled with many moments of nail-biting anticipation and unstoppable laughs, so we decided to round up our favourite moments from the latest series.
We hope you cleared your schedule: you’re going to be watching these videos all night long.
When Dan lost all his babies…
Being a single parent can be difficult, especially when you have wolves constantly trying to eat your babies. We know, we know, it sounds weird, but that’s the premises of Shelter 2. To kick off Gamingmas, Dan decided to take on the game that left Phil feeling the most stressed he’s ever been in his life. We’re not going to lie, this one left us feeling pretty emotional. We don’t want to go too much into it…
To change the subject, can we mention how much we love the pair’s hats? Total #FashionGoals.
SCREAMING
Was playing the singing game Yasuhati a good idea whilst Dan was recovering from being sick? Probably not. Was it an entertaining video? Absolutely.
A warning to all those wearing headphones: you might want to turn down the volume for this one. It features more yelling than actual singing. (Or maybe we’re just deaf and the two have the voices of angels.) There was no better way to get into the festive spirit than to watch Dan and Phil scream our favourite Christmas classics, and watching Dan freak out each time his character died was the cherry on top.
Why can’t all crazy golf courses be this trippy?
We’re not going to lie, Golf With Friends is one of our favourite series on Dan and Phil’s gaming channel, so you can bet we were stoked to see them playing it during Gamingmas.
Watch as the two compete in their closest game of crazy golf yet, and prepare to be mesmerised by the course’s bright colours and delicious-looking (and slightly creepy) scenery. Who wins? We won’t spoil the surprise, but you best bet we caddy lads were unsure of the outcome until the very end.
Charades is highly underrated
Everyone loves a good game of charades. It’s a classic at any dinner party and lets you discover the true versions of your friends – if you ever want to know who’s a sore loser, who likes to cheat, and who is secretly the most competitive person around, suggest a game of charades and the answers will soon present themselves.
In order to keep Gamingmas going while Dan was sick, both he and Phil decided to partake in a game themselves, and let’s just say it was as interesting as you’d expect. We won’t say any more, but we will add that the video’s even better if you try to play along at home.
That forfeit tho
We all know Dan and Phil are big fans of all things anime, so of course they’d participate in a game involving chopsticks and Japanese treats. However, that’s not what makes this video interesting – it’s the forfeits that really add the flare. So watch as the two compete in order to not be the one to have to eat either the salt and vinegar crickets or the barbecue mealworms… Yikes!
Overall, it was a nail-biting video. It was neck-and-neck up until the end, and we found great enjoyment watching the pair try to pick up everything from giant marshmallows to an oversized gummy hamburger. Also, can we all appreciate Phil’s wheel for a second? He was pretty proud of it and we can see why!
Geometry was never this fun
It’ll probably come as no surprise, but we here at TenEighty HQ were never fans of geometry growing up. It’s not that we weren’t good at it… Actually, it is, but on top of that, we just didn’t like Maths in general. It was our least favourite subject and it always got in the way of us doing other things, like sleeping or eating. So when we heard there was a game that blended geometry with entertainment, we were a bit sceptical.
However, after watching Dan and Phil play Geometry Dash, we find our scepticism unwarranted. While it appears to be one of the most frustrating games in existence, we feel we could totally beat it… Or, at least, make it as far as Dan and Phil did before we give up and throw the computer against the wall.
Now that’s a truth bomb for you
In case you were unaware, Dan and Phil recently released their very own board game and have been playing it with a whole host of YouTube friends! For Gamingmas, the pair teamed up with PJ Liguori and Sophie Newton for a match that asked what each person would do with a miniature Phil, the question they’d ask Dan in the Internet Support Group and the type of fan fiction they fancy. What did we learn? That Sophie needs to know how to remove ALL the beavers and Dan reads My Little Pony fan fiction in his spare time.
We really need to get the whole TenEighty team together one night to play this game.
How do you play Mario Kart without your arms?
Everyone loves settling in for the night and playing some Mario Kart, but have you ever tried to play it without using your own arms? Well, prepare to find out as Dan and Phil attempt the game while partaking in the Not My Arms Challenge.
We’re still wondering how the two managed to play the game without completely failing. We know if we attempted this challenge that we wouldn’t have made it more than two feet from the starting line.
They grow up so fast
If you’re like us, then you’ve becoming unhealthily attached to Dan and Phil’s Sims 4 family. Dil, Tabitha, Dab, and Dalien have become as much a part of our own family as our real-life parents and siblings, and we don’t know what life would be like without them.
To close out Gamingmas, Dan and Phil decided to give us the best present of all: the gift of watching Dab and Dalien grow up. We may or may not have teared up watching Dalien grow from a toddler to a fully-fledged child, and seeing Dab tower over his dad as a teenager was a heartwarming sight. Here’s hoping Tabitha and Dil are ready for this increased responsibility.
Who’s in the mood for a Gamingmas binge?
We sure are! You can bet we’ll be spending the night rewatching these videos, and the rest of this year’s series. What were your favourite moments from Gamingmas 2017? Send us a tweet to @TenEightyUK and let us know. We can gush over just how Phantastic it was!
