We here in the UK watch a lot of YouTube.
And when we say “a lot”, we mean a lot. Over the past year, the UK watched hours upon hours of videos, from videos by our fave creators to clips from huge TV shows. We watched a wide variety of content in 2017, and that shows in this year’s list of the ten most viewed videos.
Think you know what videos will appear on this list? Keep on reading to find out if your predictions are correct!
10. Golden Buzzer act Kyle Tomlinson proves David wrong | Britain’s Got Talent
You might not know it, but we here at TenEighty HQ love a good competition show. Great British Bake Off? Our all-time fave. The X Factor? Our guilty pleasure. Britain’s Got Talent? Well, we think you get the idea…
Earlier this year, 15-year-old Kyle Tomlinson auditioned for BGT, blowing everyone away with his amazing voice. He mentioned before performing that judge David Walliams had told him to get a singing coach in an earlier audition, so we were glad to see him return to show David exactly what he was made of. We’re sure the moment he saw the golden buzzer being hit is one Kyle will always remember.
9. SIDEMEN TRAMPOLINE CHALLENGES (Injuries Warning) | W2S
Everyone loves a good trampoline park (you don’t have to be a child to enjoy it), so of course this video from the Sidemen boys would be amongst the top videos of the year.
The boys looks like they’re having so much fun, and the added drone footage takes this video to the next level. We only hope they take us along the next time they visit the place. We might not look it, but we’re total daredevils. *shifty eyes*
8. Woman interrupted during BBC interview | Jono and Ben
We’re not going to lie, we were amongst the droves of viewers who initially thought this video was another real BBC interview being interrupted – until the woman took out a cooked chicken in a pan! It was a well-played joke and one that left us laughing days after we watched it.
7. Ping Pong Trick Shots 3 | Dude Perfect
Who doesn’t love a good trick shot video? Thankfully, we have the guys over at Dude Perfect to sate our needs.
For this video, the boys yet again take on ping pong ball trick shots – and leave us mesmerised, even after the video has ended. We’re still wondering how they managed to complete half of the tricks they performed. If anyone could let us know, we’d really appreciate it.
6. ED SHEERAN – Shape Of You | Choreography | KYLE HANAGAMI
As we mentioned in our top music videos article, Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You was near impossible to avoid in 2017. It inspired a variety of content, from homemade videos to song covers, but our favourite videos were those featuring some killer dance choreography, like this one from Kyle Hanagami.
We have just one word for this video: HOW?! How these dancers are able to perform such moves is beyond us, especially given we can barely walk two steps without tripping over our own feet!
5. The Conor Mcgregor Song (Official Video) | Money Fights
Anyone who is a fan of UFC was talking about the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight that occurred this year. It was a sporting event that created a ton of buzz, so we’re not surprised it inspired this song. However, what we didn’t expect is that it would be set to a ukulele.
YouTube – it’s always filled with surprises!
4. Harry Styles Carpool Karaoke | The Late Late Show with James Corden
James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke makes not one, but two appearances on this year’s list, with the first featuring One Direction’s Harry Styles.
We couldn’t contain our excitement when we saw this video pop up in our sub boxes. It’s no secret that we’re pretty much Harry Styles fangirls, so you can bet we clicked on this video immediately. Our fave moment? It would have to be a tie between Harry trying on those uber stylish outfits and him informing James that Sign of the Times makes him cry, but “in a cool way”.
3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer (Official) | Star Wars
One of the most anticipated movies of the year was the latest Star Wars film, The Last Jedi, so of course it would make an appearance on this list. The latest instalment in the series was all everyone could talk about towards the end of the year, and it’s no surprise as to why. Despite everyone’s obsession with Porgs and love of Kylo Ren, the movie fulfilled our space battle needs and we can’t wait for it to come out on DVD, so we can watch it over and over again.
In case you missed it, tons of our faves attended the European premiere of The Last Jedi, leaving us totes jealous.
2. Black Epic Sax Guy | KSI
If you ask us, saxophones are one of the most underrated instruments around, so you can bet we were stoked to see KSI‘s Black Epic Sax Guy place pretty high on this list.
We highly suggest watching (or rewatching) this video if you’re in need of a good laugh. There’s something magical about watching KSI – in a gold body suit – playing the saxophone in a pool, at the supermarket, and in a restaurant.
1. Ed Sheeran Carpool Karaoke | The Late Late Show with James Corden
Topping this year’s list is Ed Sheeran’s appearance on Carpool Karaoke. Ed’s spot on the list isn’t surprising to us, given how big a year it’s been for him and his music, and we were pretty stoked to see this video’s placement. With this video, we not only got to hear Ed and James perform some of our favourite tracks, but we also learnt why Ed feels most comfortable when performing with his guitar, and that he can fit 55 Maltesers into his mouth. (HOW?!)
What do we have to do for James Corden to invite us onto the segment?!
So there you have it…
