Dan Howell, Phil Lester, and Emma Blackery are among the UK YouTubers who feature in 2017 edition of YouTube Rewind.
YouTube Rewind: The Shape of 2017 features UK YouTubers including Dan Howell, Phil Lester, Emma Blackery, Caspar Lee, Joe Sugg, SORTEDfood, Saffron Barker, Daniel ‘TDM’ Middleton, Olajide ‘KSI’ Olatunji, Tom Ridgewell, Connie Glynn, Oli White, and Josh Pieters.
The annual video is released on the first Wednesday of December and aims to be a celebration of YouTube, featuring 300 creators and celebrities from almost 20 countries, this year all having the power to twist, turn, and spin every scene into a creative expression of the moments that shaped 2017.
Popular moments and trends that feature in the latest mashup include April the Giraffe giving birth, the “floor is lava” game, fidget spinners, children interrupting a BBC News interview, slime videos, and the Shooting Stars meme.
Viral stars Big Shaq, Hurt Bae, Backpack Kid, Niana, and Tatiana Subbotina also feature.
The YouTube Play Button has featured in multiple Rewind videos over the years. In YouTube Rewind: The Ultimate 2016 Challenge, Dan Howell and Phil Lester discovered the YouTube Play Button, while in YouTube Rewind: Now Watch Me 2015, Felix Kjellberg and Zoe Sugg used it to rewind on the ten-year anniversary of YouTube.
Work on the production started in January 2017, and was filmed at YouTube Spaces across the world and on location in nearly 20 countries.
International YouTubers who feature include Lilly Singh, Philip DeFranco, Casey Neistat, Ethan and Grayson Dolan, and Liza Koshy.
Mainstream stars have also featured in recent years. In 2016, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and James Corden opened and closed the video with Corden’s Carpool Karaoke format. This year’s video includes Stephen Colbert, Les Twins, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Ozuna.
This year’s Rewind is set to an original music mashup produced by The Hood Internet featuring some of the top songs and viral hits of 2017, including Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders, Humble by Kendrick Lamar, Stay by Zedd and Alessia Cara, and I’m the One by DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne.
