What time is it? YouTube Rewind time! What time is it? Party time. Rewind‘s out, scream and shout!
Okay, okay, we’ll stop with the High School Musical singalong, but you have to admit the release of YouTube Rewind is one of the best days of the year! Not only do we get to relive the meme-tastic time that was the past year, but we also get to see our fave creators living it up and having the time of their lives. It’s our favourite annual tradition and it never fails to leave us feeling sentimental.
We here at TenEighty HQ haven’t been able to stop watching this year’s version, we love it so much, so of course we had to round up our favourite moments from the video. We don’t think you’re ready for all the awesomeness.
That Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee cameo tho
Despacito was pretty much the anthem of 2017, and how could it not have been?! It’s an absolute jam! We were totes dancing along with Luis, Daddy Yankee, and all the YouTubers during this segment – their dance moves got nothing on ours.
Maybe fidget spinners are cool after all?
No, they’re not… At least, not in the way you’re thinking of. They’re cool in the sense that they’re ice cold. Don’t believe us? Just ask Olajide ‘KSI’ Olatunji.
We wish we had a Salt Bae in our lives…
Collins Key, Rhett McLaughlin, and Charles ‘Link’ Neal are definitely putting the original Salt Bae to shame with their Rewind performance. Why have a regular Salt Bae when you can have one that’s also a YouTuber?
Take that, TomSka!
We’re not going to lie, it was pretty satisfying watching Thomas Ridgewell get hit in the face with a ball of slime during the slime war to end all slime wars.
The Shooting Stars meme
Our biggest dream of 2017 was to be a part of the Shooting Stars meme, so we’re hurt that YouTube didn’t ask us to make a cameo… Oh, well, we guess we’ll live vicariously through dodie and Marcus Butler.
Way to rub it in that we couldn’t see the solar eclipse…
We know the UK didn’t get to experience the solar eclipse in the way North America did, but you don’t have to rub it in our faces.
RIP to all the memes
We’re sorry, 2017’s memes can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because they’re dead.
Community is what matters
Unfortunately, 2017 was a year riddled with tragedy. It’s been a trying year, but out of each tragedy came love and support for victims, their communities, and their families. This year’s Rewind sheds a spotlight on how we came together as a community, as a society, and as a world to show we’ll continue to stand together in trying times, even when it feels like everyone is trying to tear us apart.
The Logan and Jake Paul feud is finally over
With April the Giraffe (or at least a statue of her) watching over, we saw the end of the Logan and Jake Paul feud, and what better way to end it than with a slime fight and dance off?
Here’s hoping we can leave diss tracks in 2017…
Oh, no! The floor is lava!
We were on the edge of our seats watching Daniel Howell and Phil Lester try to avoid the volcanic floor below them. We’re glad they’re safe – we don’t know what we’d do without our favourite cinnamon rolls.
So there you have…
