There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Dan Howell, Phil Lester, and their viewers.
Dan and Phil first met back in 2009, and since then they’ve become the best of friends – nine times out of ten, they come as a pair. Their super amazing friendship of many years has managed to produce a massive following of creative, talented, and unique individuals who go by the ever-clever name of “the Phandom”.
The Phandom’s out-of-this-world aptitude for art and (dare we say it) creative writing talents, no matter what Dan and Phil get up to, always creates the funniest of memes. So, without further ado, here are six of our favourite Phandom moments!
When DanAndPhilCRAFTS received a silver play button
When April Fools’ Day 2015 came around, Dan and Phil decided to “fool” us all and create a new channel: DanAndPhilCRAFTS. What did they teach us, you ask? How to make squareflakes, which left us totally confused as to what was happening.
However, before we knew it, the joke channel had reached 100,000 subscribers, which, if you think about it, is mental. As the channel continued to grow, no-one suspected what would happen at Summer in the City 2015. In front of a huge crowd, DanAndPhilCRAFTS was awarded a silver play button from YouTube, all thanks to the crafties who subscribed.
Remember, kids: don’t cry, craft!
“Hey buddy, you in London?”
@danisnotonfire hey buddy you in London?
— Nick Jonas (@nickjonas) April 9, 2015
When the time came for Dan and Phil to host the Teen Awards, a crucial point in the Phandom’s history was created. Dan was given a hug by the one and only Nick Jonas. It was an ICONIC moment that we’ll always remember, but the tale doesn’t stop there.
A couple of weeks later, Dan received a tweet from Nick himself, which read, “Hey buddy, you in London?” Slowly, this became a full-on meme within the Phandom. Nick’s Instagram comments were filled to the brim with the tweet, which we think is pretty hilarious.
Phil Trash Number One
Let us set the scene. It’s VidCon 2015. Dan Howell is speaking on a panel in front of a live audience. After being asked a question about how he and Phil met, he openly admits that he is, in fact, “Phil Trash Number One”.
This one statement caused an uproar within the Phandom, and definitely goes down as one of the best moments in Phandom history. From Tumblr to Twitter, this meme spread like wildfire. We’re still really into this Dan and Phil-related meme, simply because it’s just the truth. We all like to think we’re Phil Trash Number One. Step aside, Dan.
When Dan and Phil won the Sony Golden Headphones Award
When Dan and Phil first announced they were going to have their own BBC Radio 1 show, the whole Phandom (and the world) was shook. No-one expected the duo to be nominated for the Sony Golden Headphone Award, let alone win it. We’re pretty sure the entire world stood still as the pair accepted their award for best radio show, thanks to the Phandom who voted a ridiculous amount of times.

Back in the depths of 2014/2015, Dan decided to start allowing the Phandom’s creativity to run wild. He started the hashtag #HeaderForDan, which encouraged individuals to create a new Twitter header for him. The selection of art ranged from the ultimate memes to the cutest illustrations, and it gives the Phandom a sense of hope that they’ll be noticed by their fave.
Basically any meet-and-greet photo
When Dan and Phil released The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire, they also (to our delight) announced a book tour. One of the options of this tour was to attend a meet-and-greet with the pair. If, like us, you spent hours looking through their meet-up photos (and definitely not crying in the corner with jealousy), then you’ll have seen the hilarity that entails.
Our favourite occasion was when a girl produced an adoption certificate for the duo to sign, which we think is rather… umm… creative. Another fave is the numerous times Dan and Phil messed up their attempts at dabbing. It’s evident that they tried, but failed miserably.
Fed up with Dan and Phil yet? Us neither! We couldn’t be fed up with this loveable pair, even if we tried!
It’s obvious than Dan and Phil are loved by a huge number of adoring viewers, and we honestly can’t blame them. Their Phandom is fun-loving, creative, and maybe even a slightly bit crazy, but we think they’re one of the most loyal fandoms out there. Hats off to them for creating hilarious memes and insane art, and always being 100% supportive!
