Time to get our hearts racing and our minds blown.
We’ve gone all-out this time around, so prepare yourself for geographical phenomena, skydives, wild animals, and courage you didn’t know your faves had. But thanks to YouTube, we’ll be experiencing it all vicariously, as we sit this one out in the safety of our homes.
Trust us, these videos will be more than enough to get your adrenaline spiking. Here they are, Five of the Best: YouTube Daredevils.
ON THE RIM OF AN ACTIVE VOLCANO! (Best Experience of my life!) | FunForLouis
When you think of adventure, travel, and crazy stories, who else comes to mind but Louis Cole?
That 30-second intro is possibly one of our all-time favourites, setting just the right tone: dark, dangerous, and wild. For this video, Louis takes us into a volcano – no, not the dormant day-walk of Mount Taranaki, but to an active and very much alive Kilauea in Hawaii.
We give Louis a huge thank-you for taking us somewhere we’re pretty sure we’ll never get a chance to visit. The molten lava and time-lapse of it moving and swirling around is enough to get our adrenaline going, as well as making us wonder why our parents never booked thrilling holidays like this. Another year by the sun loungers? No, thank you, we’re geography nerds now and we want volcanos!
THE MOST DANGEROUS SLIDE EVER!! | James Kingston
Those of you scared of heights be warned: look away now, or forever enjoy the heights and sights of extreme parkour. James Kingston takes on the Almas Tower in Dubai and finds a fun little slide on one of the rooftops. We joke – this slide is neither fun nor little, but instead dangerous and described by Wikipedia as “super tall”, so you know something’s special about it.
Taking us right to the edge to admire the cityscape, this slide is not one you’ll want to rush down. Too quick and James would have gone flying into the dusty air – oh, no! No barriers, no safety nets, just James, the roof and a trusty pair of trainers. What a way to admire the dust and architecture of Dubai, and certainly not a view most tourists get to see.
WILD LIONS TOUCHED OUR CAR! |Evan Edinger Travel
Ever been on a safari? Us neither. This is why we got super excited to see Evan Edinger‘s South Africa vlogs. On this super adventurous day, Evan not only got to go quad-biking, but started his safari search for the Big Five as well.
Let’s take a minute to look at his safari car, shall we… Where are the windows? The roof? Any sort of safety equipment to stop lions wandering too close? Not there, because Evan is a daredevil ready to face lions and elephants without peeing his pants – and he succeeds. A wild lion touches the car, not a feat many of us can say we’ve experienced.
#TBT ABSEIL CHALLENGE JIM + JOE | DailyMix
London’s Olympic Park is a place of records, success, and now challenges! In this video, Jim Chapman and Joe Sugg take on an abseil down the Orbit tower. Y’know, that red spiral thing. (Hopefully it’s quite strong.) And for an added feeling of amazingness, Joe does the challenge whilst wearing a Superman costume.
“I’m so proud of you, Jim,” Joe says, reminding us all of how much love these bros have for each other, without taking anything away from the daredevil challenge they’ve found themselves in. Although maybe Jim asking Joe to itch his nose for him does… Just a little.
ADVENTURE VLOG! | Rose Ellen Dix
If all that adventure has you tired out, you’ll be pleased to know that Rose Dix and Rosie Spaughton are here to take us on a bit more of a controlled thrill: the British countryside. Gullet Quarry, to be exact. Don’t worry, we hadn’t heard of it either.
Pay attention to Rose and Rosie’s survival skills and you’ll learn all about shelter, disguise, and timekeeping. The quarry is pretty cool too, reminding us that, sometimes, the best adventures don’t have to be abroad and with lots of cool equipment, but back home in part of the country you’ve never been to, enjoying time with the people you love.
So there you have it…
Five of the Best: YouTube Daredevils! Whilst these YouTubers might not be professionals in their field, we’re sure they’ve had advice from those in the know, so don’t take on any of these challenges without doing your research. But otherwise, get inspired and go find adventures of your own!
What? You want ANOTHER video?! Fine, have this bonus video of somebody who we very much wish was a YouTuber. 82 years old and full of personality, we’d like to see more of Dylis, who thinks skydiving is better than sex. She is everything we’ve ever wanted retirement to be. We simply love her, and whether she knows it or not, she’s a YouTube daredevil.
