You can never have enough Dodie in your life.
You might have noticed that we here at TenEighty HQ love Dodie Clark. Like a lot – a lot, a lot. You’ll also have definitely noticed how much talent she has! From writing songs and books, to acting and makeup, she’s got talent for days and we can’t get enough! There was also that time she jumped out of a plane and nearly gave us all heart attacks. She’s the all-rounder we aspire to be.
In honour of her upcoming EP You, we’ve compiled a host of ways our girl is taking over the world, one video at a time.
Her song covers
Chances are you first found Dodie’s channel through her acoustic covers. With her ukulele and keyboard at hand, she creates unique versions of original songs, even sometimes teaming up with her YouTube pals – such as Tessa Violet, Jack Howard, Jon Cozart, and Thomas Sanders – to make them all her own.
Our favourite, you ask? How could we possibly choose?! We love them all!
Her original songs
One of Dodie’s first original songs was the instant classic She, which describes her experience of falling in love with another girl. We still dream of finding someone who smells of lemongrass and sleep. Now, Dodie has gone from strength to strength, having her own VEVO channel where she showcases her gorgeous lyrics in videos like Intertwined and Sick of Losing Soulmates.
The live performances
Dodie’s UK Intertwined tour was a standout moment of March 2017, as was her Summer in the City 2016 performance where the entire hall sang along to her vocals – despite her not being able to hear herself in her headphones! Technical glitches aside, we LOVED her performance and are super excited for her to return the stage later on this year with her You tour.
Baking
Okay, admittedly her appearance on Daniel J. Layton‘s Baking With Layton ends with Dodie being covered in meringue, and when she cooked with Hazel Hayes the baking tray ended up buttered the wrong way, but hey! These are two of our favourite baking videos on YouTube, simply for their LOL factor.
Her makeup ability
What’s better than a Dodie video? Why, a Dodie collab with Connie Glynn and Evan Edinger, of course! The three of them sat down to take on the Boyfriend/Girlfriend Does My Makeup Challenge and it’s pretty evident Dodie is the real winner here. Sorry, Evan!
Could we please have her do our makeup too?
Her style
Okay, fess up. How many of you went out and bought a pinafore dress after becoming obsessed with Dodie? We’ll admit, we never saw the appeal before, but now it’s a wardrobe staple!
That’s not the only way Dodie’s been inspiring our style. Space buns and oval glasses, anyone?
Her stunning Instagram feed
There’s no denying Dodie is slaying the Instagram game with her feed of outings with friends, plants, and gorgeous selfies – be still our hearts. But in a departure from the typical Instagram captions you see on most profiles, Dodie’s also opened up about her mental health. This not only allows her a space to vent her emotions, but also raises awareness about mental health issues, which are often sidelined in order to create a vision of perfection.
Her acting
Just when we thought Dodie couldn’t possibly have any more talents (we’re not the only ones feeling mediocre here, right?), she’s also delved into the world of acting! Dodie’s appeared in many YouTube sketches, including Tom Ridgewell‘s 17 Ways To Dump Your Girlfriend and Valentine’s Lies, as well as in ones from the brilliant Sammy Paul, Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs, and Tim Hautekiet! She even wrote and starred in her own Christmas sketch.
Her talent never ceases to amaze us.
Her writing
The latest YouTuber to write their own book is none other than Dodie herself! Set for release November 2017, it’s a memoir about growing up and her experience with mental health, much in the same vein as her Instagram captions. Titled Secrets for the Mad: Obsessions, Confessions and Life Lessions, it’s guaranteed to be a bestseller – just look at all the preorders!
We couldn’t be more proud.
Has Dodie stolen your heart yet?
Or has she made you green with envy at her many talents? We’re so incredibly proud of how much she’s grown over the past few years, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for her!
