Are you totally jealous of the holiday snaps taking up Instagram right now? Or is that just us?
Yeah, we thought so.
Ready to plan the summer of your life? We’ve got all you need to get out into the world and start exploring, right from the comfort of your sofa. Enjoy seeing the world without the stress of flight delays, mosquito bites, and the impressive mathematical equations needed to figure out the exchange rate.
Here it is, Five of the Best: YouTubers Travelling the World!
Submarines and Aeroplanes | Evan Edinger Travel
In case you didn’t know, because we certainly didn’t, you can actually go in a real-life submarine on holiday. No, seriously, it’s true! Evan Edinger takes us to Maui to check out a Hawaiian reef in this episode of his travel diary.
The submarine takes Evan and co to a nearby shipwreck, where they get a chance to watch the fish make it their natural habitat before a storm rolls in and they have to abandon ship… Get it? This vlog is everything we wanted it to be, from the cool trees and beachside singalongs to drone footage. Could you want any more?
TOP 10 DAY OF MY LIFE – Arctic Day 4 | Mr Ben Brown
If you weren’t subbed to Ben Brown in late summer 2016, you’ll have probably missed out on his incredible Arctic Expedition vlogs. No longer will you simply think of ice and chills when you think of the Arctic, but cute little towns made of colourfully-painted houses in Greenland, and inquisitive Arctic foxes.
The sun is high and the wind still in Ben’s vlog, so it’s a great chance to see the near-neon green of the icebergs under the water and the wide shots of the freight ships passing through. We believe you can’t travel properly unless you interact with the locals, so our hearts melted when Ben let the local kids have a go at flying his drone over their town.
Forget the beach. Next summer, we’re heading on an Arctic cruise!
SOLDIERS SAVE THE DAY – Somalia day 2 | FunForLouis
This Five of the Best wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t include Louis Cole somewhere on our list. It was a tough choice (with many hours of deliberation), but in the end, we went with this vlog from Somalia. We love that not only does Louis help distribute food and supplies, but also gives us the change to see charity in action and what that means for local villagers and their families.
The spirit of the local community is high, and the local army work together to tackle a thorny tree equipped with venomous snakes in order to recover the drone Louis accidentally crashed into it. And we are very grateful he got it back because the sweeping views of the village, with its combination of donkey-driven carts and jeeps, and the startling coastline present a picture of Somalia we’ve not seen before.
Street Diaries Amsterdam! | Steve Booker
Street Diaries with Steve Booker is one of our fave travel series and Amsterdam is the perfect city to take it to. Full of fleeting colour, the city produced a photography and video combo that is actually so rare on YouTube.
Steve’s photographs show a great tension between the static and classical architecture and the fast pace of city life. If you decide to make the trip over yourself, make sure you listen to Steve’s advice and watch out for those bicycles! Take it from someone who’s been knocked over by an erratic cyclist along the canal, it hurts!
WHAT 3 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE COULD LOOK LIKE… | PyschoTraveller
If you’re looking for inspiration for a longer trip of a lifetime, Alyshia Ford is the one to watch. All about living the life you want to live, Aly takes us back over the last three years of her nomadic life. Living on the road permanently isn’t going to work out for everyone, but just look at all the snorkelling, parasailing, and delicious food she gets to eat!
If you need that final push to book some flights, a ferry or a train pass, just do it! Aly shows us that it isn’t about the number of countries you visit (she’s covered over 100,000km in only eight countries), but what you make of each place and how well you throw yourself into the life you build there.
So there you have it…
Five of the Best: YouTubers Travelling the World. Whilst we love to celebrate our British backpacking besties, we felt a very special mention was needed for our American friends Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl, who might be able to give a little push if our picks haven’t quite filled the wanderlust hole in your heart. Track down Season 28 of The Amazing Race and you’ll see them compete in a race across the world that sees them hitting the likes of Europe, South America, and more!
