Thinking of studying in the UK? Jana recommends Edinburgh as the place to be…
Jana Damanhouri has teamed up with This Is Edinburgh to show off the delights of Edinburgh’s history and culture to Arabic-speaking students looking to study at one of its four universities: Heriot Watt, Edinburgh Napier, Queen Margaret, and the University of Edinburgh.
The video explores what it would be like to live and study in Edinburgh as an international student, in particular for those coming from Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jana’s birthplace. However, the video is intriguing and informative to watch wherever you come from, with English subtitles to accompany Jana’s spoken Arabic.
Jana vlogs her tour of the university facilities, campuses, and accommodation. From the unique way Edinburgh Napier University teaches its medical students with lifelike models of patients, to the final projects of University of Edinburgh’s art students, the vlog offers an insight into what studying at these universities is really like, much more than any brochure or website.
As well as touring the universities, Jana also vlogs the gastronomical, historical, and cultural highlights of the city, such as the George IV pub, Edinburgh Castle, and the Camera Obscura museum.
The video also gives UK viewers a new appreciation of how much UK culture differs from others (in strange ways sometimes – what other countries have fried fish and potatoes as one of their iconic dishes?!) and shares the unique beauty of Edinburgh as both a place to live and learn. If we could go back and choose which university to attend all over again, Edinburgh would look very appealing!
